BOTH WORLD RECORDS BROKEN
BERLIN (GER, May 9): World
record festival at jubilee 30th BIG 25 Berlin road race. In good weather
conditions both winners broke existing road 25 km world records. Men
already for fifth time in the history of the event, women for first time. This
marks are after Zersenay Tadese´s half-marathon (and 20 km split) next world
records of the outdoor season 2010.
In women race half-marathon world champion Mary Keitany
fulfilled all expectations and achieved 1:19:53. That is huge improvement of
the former record 1:22:13 by Japanese Mizuki Noguchi as split during Berlin
marathon 2005. Keitany is now looking for her marathon debut in fall (New York
or Chicago). More Kenyans followed her Alice Timbilili (1:24:38) and Pasalia
Kipkoech (1:26:47). In the men race surprise win for 36 years old Sammy Kosgei
in superb 1:11:50. Also here the former record 1:12:45 of Paul Kosgei in Berlin
2004 was bettered nearly by one minute. Also below the old mark second
Frankfurt marathon winner Gilbert Kirwa (1:11:58). Third Ethiopian Terefe
Maregu got 1:13:16 what is new national record. Former record holder Paul
Kosgei ended 6th in 1:13:48. In great depth top nine clocked sub 1:15 times.
