Seems the City of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina had some snow. Snow is not normal in those parts. They put on the Expo, 5k and Pasta Dinner for the Bio-Lo Marathon and Dasana Half Marathon, but with snow and cold weather, decided to cancel race, which most runners found out about on day of event. This made for about 6,600 unhappy campers.
In the article below (http://www.thesunnews.com/news/local/story/1314245.html?mi_pluck_action=comment_submitted&qwxq=4803500#Comments_Container), it is quite apparent, that while the City is well meaning, they might not have had anyone with experience in putting on races in difficult conditions. Canceling a race is an ordeal. But, at the very least, the race officials need to refund the money to the marathoners and half marathoners. 6,600 people came to run & walk, at $60-$110 each! Time for the race and city officials (who bear some blame on the incident) should work together (city should help with marathon bills, as they just cut the finances from under them). Otherwise, good luck on having another race and hello complaining runners! The power of the web is that one complaint can be seen by thousands of interested runners.
