Here are a few pictures with my thoughts from the past few days in Beijing….But first, here is Mike Hazle, the American javelin thrower, in a superb series by Victah Sailer, I just love this!
Amy Acuff is the only member of the 2008 team to have competed in four track & field portions of the Olympic games. Here she is shown in the qualifying round.
Bryan Clay, the Athens silver medalist, conquered his fears, the humidity, the rain and the field, and took the gold medal here in a most challenging set of conundrums that gives the decathlon its near sacred place in the Olympic pantheon.
The rain was just another thing that the decathletes had to conquer, or be conquered. In the end, half of the field failed to finish.
Trey Hardee of the US, looked like a medal winner, but hurt himself in the second day and had to withdraw from the competition.
Chaunte Howard, US high jumper, would finish sixth in the Olympic high jump.
Tom Pappas, fifth in Sydney, hurt his foot during the decathlon and had to drop out of the competition.
Tero PIkatimaki of Finand, shown here in the qualifying round, would end up taking the Olympic bronze medal.

Larry–Are those spatted Nikes on Mike Hazle?
Those shoes look suspiciously like adidas high jump shoes on Mike!
