The Association of Athletic Managers met in Miami, Florida this past week, with
many of the European meet directors and the prominent footwear companies. The Association represents 29 of the major reps for the top track and field athletes in
the world. At their meeting, they agreed to not represent an athlete who has tested
positive for banned drugs and faced a two year ban from the sport…
While this seems like a no brainer, the truth is, until groups such as this stand up and make a strong rule, there will be no changes in the sport of track and field.
This is a good first step, and it follows the similar rule by the European Athletic Association to ban athletes who have test positive from the next European championship cycle.
Kudos to the agents for taking the higher ground!
