The HOKA ONE ONE Long Island Mile will be held on 5 September. It is one of the premier mile races in the country. Here’s the preview from Jeff Benjamin.
Fireworks Coming To Next Week’s HOKA Long Island Mile!
By Jeff Benjamin
It seems that every year the HOKA ONE ONE Long Island Mile gets better and better. Event oleander and top American Miler Kyle Merber seems to always be able to possess the knack of attempting to draw some top male and female milers to compete, including himself!
And this year is no different.
While defending champs Chris O’Hare and Emily Lipari will be returning to attempt to win once again, some things in the landscape will be different in this year’s edition, which takes place this upcoming Wednesday evening on September 5th.
First the venue will be changing as the Mile events (ranging from community to the elite races) will be taking place at Bay Shore Senior High School, which will obviously provide a new vibe to the evening.
Adding to that vibe will be the field of elites as names such as Amanda Eccleston, Katrina Coogan, Ce’Aira Brown, Ben Blankenship, Charles Philibert-Thiboutot, Charlie Grice will all battle for the top prize. Falmouth Race winner Ben Flanagan will be joining in the fireworks as well.
But perhaps the biggest name in the field isn’t quite classified as a miler. The 2017 World Steeplechase Gold Medalist Emma Coburn will be competing as well and she is no stranger to the mile either, as she has competed outside of the barriers in races such as the Fifth Avenue Mile, and sports a 4:29.8 Mile PR alongside a 4:05.1 1500 best as well.
Merber, who’ll be sitting this one out as he comes back from injury, has no doubt orchestrated an explosive field.
It sure looks like fireworks on Wednesday night in Long Island!
