Week 2, Day 2, Recovery Week Two
Today, take a 30-minute run or 45-minute walk.
This is the beginning of the second week of our two—to three-week recovery time. The idea is to get a physical, mental, and spiritual break. We read books, nap, goof off, and get outside and enjoy nature.
The workouts will be three days a week, and you can walk or bike to get you moving.
Last night was the Women’s 800 meters.
Way back in 2021, at the Olympic Trials, Nia Akins fell down in the final and did not move onto Tokyo.
This year, in the final, at 200 meters into the 800 meters, there was a lot of congestion and Athing Mu, Olympic champion and 2022 World Champion gold medalist, tangled up and fell, getting up quickly and bravely trying to get into the race, but she could not. She left the track in tears, as her dreams for Paris gold were gone, at least in the 800 meters.
Nia Akins, Juliette Whitabker, and Allie Wilson battled over the next 600 meters, with Nia Akins taking the gold, Allie Wilson grabbing the silver, and Juliette Whitaker taking the bronze.
The 800 meters is a tough, physical race. People get banged up. Getting into a pack means you can fall, get bumped, lose concentration, or worse. Nia Akins stayed focused, and kept her game plan, developed by her coach, Danny Mackey.
In the end, Nia Akins, who had the experience of Athing but back in 2021, has learned from that nightmare.
Let’s hope that Athing Mu can come back from this crazy race.

A 30-minute easy run.
If you need something to do outside (it is hot today), walk 30 minutes early, ride a bike, or, best yet, take an easy swim and enjoy the day!
