- My birthday is 9/11; it is a complicated day for me.
- Lost several classmates who were on the flights that hit the Towers.
- Spent the day waiting to see if the photographer, Victah Sailer, was alive, as he was a firefighter.
- Victah called me at 11:55 p.m. on 9/11 that he was alive. I was very grateful.
- 9/11/72 was my first cross-country race at DeSmet Jesuit High School in Creve Coeur, Mo.
- I ran 18:09 for two miles. I did not win my first race until nine years later, as a senior at Santa Clara University, where I ran 33:20 for 5.8 miles in Almaden Quicksilver Park. I had run 300 races by then.
- Cross country is my favorite part of sport.
- Started writing at RW in 1983 with Don Bowden piece. Thanks to John Brant and Danny Ferrara.
- I am grateful to all who I have met along the road.

Larry Eder has had a 52-year involvement in the sport of athletics. Larry has experienced the sport as an athlete, coach, magazine publisher, and now, journalist and blogger. His first article, on Don Bowden, America's first sub-4 minute miler, was published in RW in 1983. Larry has published several magazines on athletics, from American Athletics to the U.S. version of Spikes magazine. He currently manages the content and marketing development of the RunningNetwork, The Shoe Addicts, and RunBlogRun.
