Bence HALÁSZ is a Hungarian superstar. His event? The hammer throw is a national tradition, up there with Goulash (a wonderful soup made with beef and veggies). Remember, of the ten medals that Hungary has won in the World Championships, six are throws.
To the delight of the 30,000 screaming fans in the National Athletics Centre, Bence HALÁSZ took the lead in the Hammer final, Bence threw 80.82m, and that throw held on to a medal while Ethan Katberg, Canada, took the gold, and Wojciech Nowicki, Poland took the silver.
The Bence won the first medal for Hungary in these games, which delighted the crowd on their national holiday, Saint Stephens Day. Saint Stephen was the first Catholic king of Hungary.
