Kirani James is the youngest Olympic champion and World Champion at 400 meters ever.
His battles with LaShawn Merritt are legendary, and his 43.74 Personal best this year has been amazing.
Kirani is wise beyond his years. Perhaps it is the way he comports himself. Perhaps it is that his coach, Harvey Glance, has been there and prepares him for all. Perhaps, it was his growing up in Grenada, where he was allowed to be a kid.
In all of those cases, Kirani James gave the assembled media a wonderfully thoughtful interview. A young athlete, who has a decade of running ahead of him, if we are lucky, will provide many more fine interviews.
This interview, done before his victory in Birmingham with his 44.59 (Sunday 24 August), was done on 23 August 2014 at the Hyatt in Birmingham, England.
