DL MOVED TO GLASGOW
GLASGOW (GBR): British Athletics has confirmed that Hampden Park is to host a two-day Diamond League meeting in 2014 as the event moves from London to Glasgow. Athletics Weekly reported last September how the national governing body was said to have completed a deal that would see Britain’s premier Diamond League meeting move from the capital to the 2014 Commonwealth Games host city this year. The switch has now been officially announced, with the event to be held on July 11-12 and known as the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix. There had been much discussion as to the venue for this year’s Diamond League meeting, with the Olympic Stadium, venue for last year’s Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games, out of action until 2015 at the earliest due to refurbishment. The event had previously been held at Crystal Palace. Also the second British meet in the series switched from Gateshead to Birmingham in 2011 in second year of the Diamond League.
