I have missed only one NGIndoorGP since 1996. The Reggie Lewis Center fixture is one of my favorite meets of the year, and for me, opens the indoor season. The crowd, the intimacy, and the performances wow the crowd and keep fans coming back, year after year!
BOSTON (USA): The New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on February 8 will feature a world class 3000m field headlined by the Ethiopian pair of Dejen Gebremeskel and Hagos Gebrhiwet. Gebremeskel, the 2012 5000m Olympic silver medallist, will return to the Reggie Lewis Center for the 5th consecutive year while Gebrhiwet is also familiar with the Boston oval having set a World Junior record here last year (7:32.87). Oregon Project’s Cam Levins will hope to continue his good form after setting a Canadian Indoor 5000m record on January 16 while Garrett Heath will attempt to pull off another surprise win after his Edinburgh Cross Country victory. Sam Chelanga should also be up front after opening with a 13:04.35 5000m. Also in the field is steeplechaser Donn Cabral, Andrew Bumbalough and Ryan Hill. World and Olympic decathlon champion Ashton Eaton will run over 60mH while World heptathlon silver medallist Brianne Thiesen Eaton will compete in the long jump and pace the 1000m. Olympic silver medallist Sally Kipyego will face the on form Jordan Hasay over 2 miles, Lopez Lomong will compete in the mile, 2012 World Junior 800m champion Ajee’ Wilson will run the 1000 meters and 1500m World leader Kim Conley will run the 2000m.
