The NCAA’s Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Committee has announced the team and individual qualifiers for the 2013 Division III men’s and women’s cross country championships.

Hanover College will host the NCAA championships, Saturday, Nov. 23, at its nationally renowned campus course. The women’s race will begin at 11 a.m. (ET), followed by the men’s finale at 12:30 p.m.

Each championship race will include 32 teams, with seven runners per squad, and 56 individuals from additional schools.

The 32 teams in each race will include 16 teams, two from each of eight regions, which automatically qualify in regional events. Also, the NCAA national committee selects16 at-large teams from among the top five teams in each regional meet.

The top seven individual competitors in each regional race, not associated with a qualifying team, also earn a place in the championship field.

In 2012, North Central College (Ill.) scored 167 points to earn its third men’s team championship in four years. The Cardinals were 21 points ahead of Calvin College (Mich.), which finished second with 188 points.

The University of Wisconsin-Stout’s Tim Nelson held off Bobby Over from Allegheny College (Pa.) by just eight seconds to win the individual title.

On the women’s side, Johns Hopkins University (Md.) captured the 2012 national championship with 158 points. The Blue Jays defeated Wartburg College (Iowa), which placed second with 221 points.

Christy  Cazzola from the University of  Wisconsin-Oshkosh won the individual crown, finishing 15 seconds ahead of Ohio Northern University’s Alison Steinbrunner.

The 2013 championships mark the third time Hanover College has hosted the NCAA’s cross country finales.

The 2003 championships at Hanover marked the first time in NCAA history that athletes from the same school captured individual titles.

Wartburg’s Missy Buttry set the current course record with a winning time of20:00.2 and teammate Josh Moen captured the men’s title in 24:34.4.

Calvin earned the men’s championship with 48 points, while Middlebury College (Vt.) won the women’s team title with 135 points.

In 2008, Middlebury totaled 179 points to win the women’s team championship. Cortland State University (N.Y.) earned the men’s crown with 80 points.

Marie Borner from Bethel College (Minn.) was the individual winner in the women’s 2007 championship with a time of 20:44.0.

Hamilton College (N.Y.) runner Peter Kosgei set Hanover’s course record with a time of 24:22.1 to win the men’s finale that fall.

Connecticut College senior Michael LeDuc and the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) senior Chelsea Johnson hold the top times on Hanover’s course this season.

LeDuc, who captured the New England Regional title Nov. 16, covered Hanover’s eight-kilometer course in in 25:22.82 to win the Pre-Nationals, Oct. 5.

Johnson, the Central Region champion, toured Hanover’s six-kilometer course in 21:25.74 to claim the women’s Pre-Nationals’ crown.
