LONDON (GBR): Olympic Heptathlon champion, Jessica Ennis-Hill has been forced to withdraw from the IAAF World Championships in Moscow due to achilles and heel pain. In a statement released by British Athletics, Ennis-Hill said she has been managing the pain in an effort to compete for the win at the World Championships in Moscow. However, she feels that, due to a combination of lack of form and pain, she will not be fit enough to compete in Moscow and will take time out to find a cure for her injury problems. Ennis-Hill’s coach, Toni Minichiello, said that their aim now is to be back in competition for next year’s indoor season.

SPLIT (CRO): Popular Croatian high jumper Blanka Vlasic has decided not to compete at the World Championships in Moscow. After a successful return to competitions this summer, with a best result of 2.00, Blanka is still not fully recovered and has too much pain to be able to jump in Moscow. “I am happy I had those 7 competitions after a long wait and wish to return to competition. However, the pain in my foot became more intense after the Diamond League competition in Monaco and it still has not calm down as after the other competitions. This is a clear sign that I need to stop for a while and recover completely. To jump in Moscow would be too much of a risk and could only jeopardize the future and I don’t want to risk that. Jumping 2m this season under difficult circumstances gives me hope that I can do much better, but in order to do that, I need to get healthy. I wish all my competitors all the best and good luck in Moscow,” she said in a release.
Chernova explains
MOSCOW (RUS): Another favorite of women heptathlon pulled out from Moscow Worlds as already informing, Russian world leader Tatyana Chernova. The 25 year old reigning world champion will not defend her title because of hamstring injury she has got at nationals. “I doesn’t know yet whether my injury is very serious or no. I’m going through the medical examinations right now. And certainly I’m so sorry I must miss Moscow Worlds.”

MINSK (BLR): 27 athletes will be competing for Belarus at the Moscow Champs. Men squad consists of 10 athletes and is headed by decathlon Beijing silver medalist and heptathlon European indoor champion 2011 Andrei Krauchanka, 50km race walker Ivan Trotski and strong group of three hammer throwers Pavel Krivitskiy, Yuriy Shayunov and Valeriy Svyatokho. Among women top names are Beijing Olympic champion in hammer throw Aksana Miankova, long jump European silver medalist Volha Sudareva, reigning European indoor silver medalists Alina Talai for 100m hurdles and Yana Maksimava for heptathlon and 800m runner Marina Arzamasava.
CHISINAU (MDA): Moldova is sending 4 athletes to Moscow Worlds: Olesya Cojuhari (400m), Ion Luchianov 3000m steeplechase, Roman Prodius and Sergiu Ceban in marathon.
LONDON (GBR): The Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad for the World Championships in Moscow has “defending champions, potential medallists, finalists and some really exciting young talents” according to High Performance Director Neil Black. The big news is that Olympic Long Jump champion Greg Rutherford is named in the squad after injury concerns had left his participation in doubt. Mo Farah will compete in both the 5000m and 10,000m events attempting to win the distance double that he failed to achieve in Daegu, wher he finished 2nd in the 10,000m. Defending world 400m hurdles champion Dai Greene is also selected but will have to beat stiff competition from the top Americans and Jehue Gordon if he is to successfully defend his title. Christine Ohuruogu will be a challenger in the 400m after her 50.00 run to win the London Diamond League. 400 metre hurdler Perri Shakes Drayton should be one of the best challengers of World Leader Zuzana Hejnova while 100m hurdler Tiffany Porter is a potential medallist. Former World Junior 100m Champ, Adam Gemili is entered for the 200m while the prodigious 18 year old Jessica Judd competes in the 800m.
STOCKHOLM (SWE): The Sweden announced a 24 strong team for the World Championships. Included in the squad is former Ethiopian Abeba Aregawi who holds the World Lead in the 1500m. Aregawi is Sweden’s best possibility of a medal and her early season form suggests that that medal should be gold. Emma Green Tregaro will be Sweden’s only representative in the High Jump. Javelin thrower Kim Amb, who has thrown 84.33 this year, is the best ranked of the Swedish throwers. The 20 year old World Junior record holder in the Pole Vault, Angelica Bengtsson, and the 18 year old Sofia Linde, who took 2nd at the European Juniors in Rieti, will attempt to break through into the top ranks at the senior level. The 400m European champion, Moa Hjelmer, will compete in both the 200m and the 400m while Sweden will be represented in the Long Jump by Michel Torneus and Erica Jarder.
WARSZAWA (POL): The Polish Athletics Federation has announced a team of 55 athletes for the 2013 IAAF World Championships. Included in the team is current world leader in the Discus, Piotr Malachowski, who earlier this year added more than two metres to his own national record with a throw of 71.84m. Former World record-holder and 2009 World champion Anita Wlodarczyk is hopeful of taking a medal in the Hammer. Two-time Olympic Shot Put champion Tomasz Majewski will be keen to improve on his performance at the last World Championships in 2011 when he finished down in eighth place. Poland won just one medal at the 2011 World Championships with Pawel Wojciechowski taking a surprise gold in the Pole Vault, but injury has ruled out his title defence. Other medal hopes include 2009 World Pole Vault champion Anna Rogowska, heptathlete Karolina Tyminska and race walker Grzegorz Sudol. Informs the IAAF.
OTTAWA (CAN): The Canadian team for the Moscow World Championships features 46 athletes. The team includes Olympic bronze medallist Derek Drouin (HJ), Daegu silver medallist Dylan Armstrong (SP) and one of the favourites for the heptathlon, Brianne Theisen-Eaton. Sheila Reid is a potential finalist in the 1500m after running a PB of 4:02.96 in Eugene this year. 21 year old Aaron Brown, who has season’s bests of 10.05(+1.9), will compete in the 100m, the event in which he finished 5th at the World Juniors in 2010.
ATHENS (GRE): Team of Greece consists of 17 athletes. 8 men and 9 women. Male jumpers Baniotis, Tsatoumas and Filippidis are the biggest hopes. The team, men – 200 m: Tsakonas, 110mH: Douvalidis, HJ: Baniotis, Mastoras, PV: Filippidis, LJ: Tsatoumas, TJ: Tsiamis, 20 kmw and 50 kmw: Papamihail. Women – 200 m: Belibasaki, Mar: Astropekaki, HJ: Stergiou, PV: Kyiriakopoulou, Ledaki, TJ: Perra, Panetta, 20kmw: Drisbioti, hep: Ifantidou.
NICOSIA (CYP): Cyprus is sending two athletes to Moscow. Male discus thrower Apostolos Parellis and female 200 m sprinter Eleni Artymata.

BRUSSELS (BEL): Belgium is sending out 15 athletes to the World championships. Main medal contenders are Kevin and Jonathan Borlée, as well as Belgium’s 4x400m team that includes Dylan Borlée, Antoine Gillet, Arnaud Destatte and Will Oyowe. Also on the team are talented combined events athletes Nafi Thiam and Thomas Van der Plaetsen as well as European U23 1500m champion Pieter-Jan Hannes. The team further includes Adrien Deghelt (110m hurdles), Bashir Abdi (10.000m), Anne Zagré (100m hurdles), Sara Aerts (100m hurdles), Axelle Dauwens (400m hurdles) and Almensh Belete (5.000m).
AMSTERDAM (NED): European indoor heptathlon champion Eelco Sintnicolaas is ready for the decathlon in Moscow. Sintnicolaas disappointed last year in the Olympic Games and hopes to rank himself again amongst the world’s best athletes when competing in Moscow. The Dutchman told losseveter.nl he aims for a top 6 position and could even win a medail.
ABUJA (NGR): The Nigerian team for Moscow have to cancel their pre-championships training camp due to funding constraints, reports the Nigerian Guardian. The sports minister announced that he would only give “some allowances” to the athletes. Nigeria had planned to have a 2 week training camp but will now leave for Moscow on August 5th.

PORT ORANGE (USA): 2008 Olympic Silver medallist heptathlete, Hyleas Fountain received a laser procedure on a degenerative disc issue in her back, in March, after she was told that her days spent running were numbered. The now 32 year old American followed the procedure with 8 weeks of no training, a period when she fell into depression. Fountain failed to finish the heptathlon in London due to career endangering sciatic nerve pain. Despite these troubles Fountain aims to make the 2016 Games in either the Long Jump of the hurdles.
BOSTON (USA): Massachusetts will study the feasibility of hosting the 2024 Olympic Summer Games, reports the wcvb. The study must be finished by March 2014. The United States Olympic Committee aims to have a short list of potential Olympic hosts by the end of this year and will then make a recommendation, on the best suited city, in 2014.
MONACO (MON): Nine Turkish athletes will receive two year bans after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs, informs the Associated Press. Six of the athletes are female, with two of these being teenagers. Eight of the athletes that tested positive are field eventers while one is a runner. Six field athletes tested positive for stanozolol , three of these also tested positive for oral turinabol. The three other athletes tested positive for stanozolol , methandienone and oxandrolone respectively. Information is based on latest IAAF Newsletter.
NEW YORK (USA): The New York Road Runners have announced that top Americans Ryan Hall, Kara Goucher and Meb Keflezighi will compete in the 2013 ING New York Marathon on November 3rd. Keflezighi is a former winner of the race and finished 6th in his last appearance. Ryan Hall finished 4th in 2009 while Kara Goucher returns after recording America’s fastest ever female debut marathon time when she finished 3rd in 2008. London Olympians, Julie Culley, Janet Bawcom and Amy Hastings were also named in the women’s race. Jason Hartmann, who has twice finished 4th in the Boston marathon was named in the men’s field along with fellow Americans Ryan Vail and Jeffrey Eggleston.
BRUSSELS (BEL): The Olympic winner and current world leader in pole vault Renaud Lavillenie has been confirmed for this season’s final Diamond League meet in Brussels. The 26 year old has vaulted 11cm higher than the second best vaulter in the world this year and has also set the top 6 highest jumps in the world this year. He has twice finished 2nd at the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme. First he will go to Moscow as the overwhelming favourite to take the World Championships title.
AACHEN (GER): Th 9th Domspringen will change the Aachen City Center to pole vault arena on September 4. Bjorn Otto jumped here last year German record and he will face his main home rivals Raphael Holzdeppe and Malte Mohr. Otto won here already three times, last year with the national mark 601 cm. Expected are 5000 spectators, more is not possible in the area.
FONT ROMEU (FRA): L´Équipe informed that Olympic 1500 m winner Taofik Makhloufi is meeting daily in Font Romeu with top French runners Mahiedine Mekhissi and Bob Tahri. But their goals are different. While French runners are in preparation for Moscow the Algerian hero is just occasional runner around Lake Matemale. He was diagnosed with hepatitis A and needed to withdraw from World Championships. In this circumstances he is under treatment and will feel the effectes from three to six months.
LONDON (GBR): 2 times Olympic gold medallist in the 400mH, American Edwin Moses could become the next president of the World Anti-Doping Agency after submitting his candidacy last week, reports the Epoch Times. The current USADA chair joins Briton’s Craig Reedie and France’s Patrick Schamasch as the candidates for the position. The IOC will put forward one candidate at its meeting in Moscow onAugust 9th. The current WADA president, John Fahey of Australia, will step down in November after holding his role for 6 years.
FALMOUTH (USA): The elite fields have been named for the 41st New Balance Falmouth Road race, inform Race Results Weekly. The race will feature a separate elite women’s start for the first time in the events history. The men’s race is headlined by the defending champion Stanley Biwott and also features last year’s Boston Marathon 2nd placer Micah Kogo. The American charge is fronted by a trio of Oregon based runners; former American 10,000m record holder Chris Solinsky, the Oregon Project’s Luke Puskedra and the former World Junior record holder in the indoor mile German Fernandez. The women’s race features Kenyan Lineth Chepkurui (who placed 5th last year), former champion Wude Ayalew of Ethiopia, Gemma Steel of Britain and American’s Stephanie Rothstein Bruce , Neely Spence Gracey and Julia Lucas.

KIENBAUM (GER, Jul 31): Top shape by German throwers at an open meet. Olympic winner Robert Harting achieved in discus 68.85 ahead of his brother Christoph 64.83. Nadine Muller won women discus 64.68 over Julia Fischer 61.38. In women hammer 74.48 for Betty Heidler.
