Bolt: “I know I am clean”
LONDON (GBR): Usain Bolt claimed before London 100 m race that he was always destined to be one of the greatest athletes of all time and that he has been doing phenomenal things since he was a teenager – as he was forced to defend himself following a series of positive drugs tests involving top sprinters. “If you were following me since 2002, you will know that I have been doing phenomenal things since I was 15,” he said. m”I’m confident in myself and the people I work with and I know I’m clean so I am just going to continue running and using my talent to try and improve the sport. I don’t make the rules and I can’t determine how harsh they should be. In life things happen, people make mistakes, mishaps happen, so I can’t really decide what the rules should be. As an athlete, I have to be very careful. I have a great team around me, I work hard and they make sure I stay on the straight and narrow.
Oldest world record celebrates 30 years
CASLAV (CZE): The oldest world record celebrates on Friday 30 years. The 1:53.28 of Jarmila Kratochvilova in the 800 m. “Yes, we will have a small celebration today in our stadium in Caslav,” says Kratochvilova for EME NEWS. “But nothing big, you know Im not that kind of person. Im more looking forwards to Saturday where the whole Czecho-Slovak team competing in Helsinki 1983 is coming together for a special celebration,” adds the current coach of young runners in her home town of Caslav. “Of course I was not thinking the record will last for so long. After I did it I was saying to myself, next year we have Olympic Games there it will be broken,” admits Kratochvilova (62). She also says that she was in top shape in 1983 and if not combining different events she could run even better the 800 m at the World Championships in Helsinki, “but I was thinking only about medals in Helsinki, not about results.” About for how long it will still be the best mark ever Kratochvilova says: “I m following the scene, I was hoping Mutola, later Jelimo, later Semenya, now the young girl from Burundi, that they can come close. But nothing happened. Now I would be more happy when it will last as long as possible. Earlier I was not following it so closely. And you should be aware, I was living in different time. For the record I got 3000 Czecho-Slovak crowns and bought a television but needed to add something as it was not enough.”
