The following statement from Max Siegel was sent to me approximately 43 minutes after stories were posted on GuardianUK, ESPN, ABC, AP, Yahoo Sports.
As the CEO of USATF, Max Siegel did just what he was hired to do: It is on his watch and he has to respond with force, and look to the future, noting the important job that USADA is doing.
Within an hour of the Tyson Gay testing positive story, the Jamaica Gleener announced that FIVE Jamaican athletes had ” adverse findings” at the Jamaican Trials, held June 20-23.
Statement from USATF CEO Max Siegel about Tyson Gay:
USA Track & Field is strongly opposed to doping, and we respect the work that USADA has done as a leading agency globally in the fight against drugs in sport. We do not know the facts of this case and look to USADA to adjudicate it and handle it appropriately. It is not the news anyone wanted to hear, at any time, about any athlete. As we approach the World Championships, we will remain focused on the competition at hand and winning the right way.‪
