NAIROBI (KEN): Kenyan media are informing. It’s now official. World record holder, David Rudisha, is the only top athlete who has automatic entry for the Moscow World Championships exempted from the Kenya Trials set for Saturday in Nairobi. For other active Daegu (2011), London (2012) and Diamond League (2012) winners from the country who are eligible for automatic entry in the August Moscow Worlds, the Athletics Kenya (AK) panel of selectors will determine their fate after the Trials. During a pre-event media briefing on Thursday, the federation reiterated that the first two across the line will gain automatic entry with the panel deciding which athletes will join them in the final Moscow squad as well as the size of the contingent.

NEW YORK (USA): The 2013/2014 Professional Road Racing Organization’s season opens on Sunday with the 36th running of the Utica Boilermaker 15-K in Upstate New York. The annual event, which is one of America’s largest 15-K races, recorded 11,359 finishers last year. The PRRO series is made up of five events in two countries which offer a total of 433 000 USD in prize money and bonuses. Sunday’s Boilermaker features both recently-crowned Peachtree champions, Geremew and Chepkurui, according to Dick Mattia who coordinates the elite runners for the event. Also in the international field will be reigning Ethiopian 5000m/10,000m champion Belete Assefa (second at Peachtree), 2009 Boston Marathon champion Deriba Merga of Ethiopia, 2008 African Championships silver medalist Meskerem Assefa (also of Ethiopia), and 2013 Allstate Life Insurance Miami Beach 13.1 Marathon champion Risper Gesabwa of Kenya. BERLIN (GER): Infront Sports and Media, the international sports marketing agency, has brokered a four-year sponsorship deal between Laserline, the printing company, and SCC Events, the organiser of BMW Berlin Marathon.
AMSTERDAM (NED): Ethiopian Sifan Hassan urgently hopes to receive her Dutch passport with the hopes of competing for The Netherlands at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow. The 1500m runner reached the standard to be send to Moscow but will only receive her passport in four months. Hassan has now started a procedure with request to recieve her passport as soon as possible writes De Telegraaf.
BERLIN (GER): Following her victory at the German national championships, former European champion Verena Sailer is looking forward to the rest of the season. Sailer told leichtathletik.de she is not putting added pressure on herself but believes the best part of her season is yet to come. She also commented that she could do as well as reaching the finals at the world championships.
BERLIN (GER): Third Berlin Flyes will be back on August 24 just near the Brandenburg Gate. Germany, USA, Russia and France will have in long jump and pole vault men and women (one from every country) with scoring after each of four rounds. SANTA CRUZ (USA): The Wharf to Wharf Race announced its elite field for the 41st edition of the annual six-mile race from Santa Cruz to Capitola-by-the-Sea, contested on July 28. Headlining the deepest American men’s field in the history of the race is former American record-holder Chris Solinsky. In the women’s race, 2012 WtW champion Risper Gesabwa, 24, returns to defend her title.
BOCHUM (GER): The TV Wattenscheid team will attempt on Saturdayto break the all-time best in an unusual 4×400 m hurdles relay. The time to attack is 3:35.02.
PORTLAND (USA): Runnersworld.com informs that the effort by Jordan Hasay and Tara Erdmann to get the 10 000 m qualifying times they need to represent the United States at the world championships in Moscow now has a definite start time. It’ll be at 10:30 p.m. Sundaynight at Roosevelt High School in Portland. Conditions at that time are expected to be as ideal as possible in July for a quick 10 k.
EUGENE (USA): Canadian heptathlete Brianne Theisen can run the race of her life, and the next day her fiance will perform an almost inconceivable feat of athletic strength and make headlines around the world. The 24-year-old from Humboldt, Saskatchewan, will marry American Ashton Eaton on Saturday in Eugene, the latest chapter in an Olympic-sized love story that began when the two met as teenagers at the University of Oregon.
