Olympic games finalist Murielle Ahoure of Ivory Coast won the 100 m in new national record and 5th fastest of the year 10.91 (+1.5). Second Ivet Lalova 11.16 ahead of US Lakeisha Lawson 11.18. Olympic winner Sally Pearson was third at the hurdles 12.76 (+1.6) beaten by US duo Yvette Lewis 12.72 and Kristi Castlin 12.74. Former world record holder Dayron Robles comes into the shape as he clocked his fastest of the year 13.18 (+1.8) at 110 m hurdles. Second 2009 World champion Ryan Brathwaite 13.24 and third US Omo Osaghae 13.35. US Moscow bound Curtis Mitchell won the 200 m in 20.20 (+2.1) over 2009 World medalist Alonso Edward from Panama 20.32. Trinidad champion Keston Bledman won the 100 m in 10.11 (+1.5) ahead of US Mokie Salaam 10.13, Jamaican Kimmari Roach 10.15 and Briton Harry Aikines-Aryeetey 10.21. Fast life-time best for Belarus Anis Ananenka1:45.04 in the 800 m ahead of Muriel Castillo of Cuba 1:45.66. After improvement in Paris at 800 m Moroccan Malika Akkaoui missed her 1500 m PB with 4:04.97 only by 0.01. US Gabriele Anderson second4:05.68. Australian Collis Birmingham won the 3000 m in good 7:41.02 ahead of Kenyans Cornelius Kangogo 7:41.90 and Gideon Gathimba7:42.18. Almaz Ayana coming from 5000 m PB in Paris won the steeple in 9:38.44. In technical events Cuban olympic medalist Yarisley Silva topped the pole vault 470 (missed 480) over Mary Saxer 460 and Tori Pena 450. Ukrainian Roman Avramenko confirmed again his good average with 84.14 javelin win. Russian Vasiliy Kopeykin was surprise long jump winner 806 (+2.1) beating Chris Tomlinson 805 (+1.5), DL winner Damar Forbes from Jamaica had three fouls. Levern Spencer and Nadia Dusanova cleared 191 in the high jump and Yelena Leantsiuk of Belarus topped women shot put 18.12.

KAZAN (RUS, Jul 8): South Africa and Russia won each two gold medals during second day of athletics at the Universiade. Olympic 200 m finalist Anaso Jobodwana from South Africa won the 100 m in 10.10 (+0.5, equaled his PB) clearly over Japanese Ryota Yamagata 10.21, Wilfred Koffi of Ivory Coast also 10.21 PB and Serhiy Smelyk of Ukraine again 10.21 and also life-time best. Stephen Mokoka was the best in the 10 000 m 28:45.96 over Russian Rybakov twins Anatoliy (28:47.27) and Yevgeniy (28:47.28). European indoor champion Darya Klishina dominated the women long jump 690 (+0.3) her season best. Diamond League 2012 winner Yelena Sokolova was second 673 (-1.2) and German Michelle Weitzel got bronze 656 (-0.5). In women discus Russia was 1-2, Vera Ganeyeva 61.26 and Yelena Panova 56.86, bronze for South African Maryke Oberholzer 54.09. Men hammer saw Pawel Fajdek of Poland winning with 79.99 (equaled his season best) over Slovak Marcel Lomnicky who in last round improved his career best to 78.73 and home Sergey Litvinov 78.03. Sub 11 US Nationals 6th placer Auriyeall Scott won the women 100 m in 11.28 (-0.2) with Lina Grincikaite of Lithuania second 11.32 and Romanian Andreea Ograzeanu third 11.41. Belgian Thomas Van der Plaetsen leads the decathlon after first day 4253 points. Fastest in 400 m semifinals Brian Gregan of Ireland (45.91, and PB of Rafal Omelko of Poland 45.94) and Russian Kseniya Ustalova 51.71. Ukrainian Hana Titimets was the fastest in the 400 m hurdles semifinals 55.38 and in the 800 m semis dominated Russian favorites Yekaterina Kupina 2:00.76 and Yelena Kotulskaya 2:01.23.

MONTE CARLO (MON): The organisers of Herculis IAAF Diamond League meet on July 19 in Monaco will offer journalists a unique opportunity to speak with double olympic winner Mo Farah. They will be able to go on a bus tour around Monaco with him. The tour will be around 45 minutes long.
PARIS (FRA): European indoor champion Jimmy Vicaut confirmed he will only run the 100 m at the French Championships this weekend. Initially he also planned the 200 m at the Charlety Stadium in Paris. Interestingly he improved his 200 m best to 20.30 at the Areva Diamond League meet on Saturday.
LAUSANNE (SUI): The European Athletics Anti-Doping Education Programme will be organised on the sidelines of the upcoming Tampere 2013 European Athletics U23 Championships and Rieti 2013 European Athletics Junior Championships. At
hletes participating in Tampere from 11-14 July and Rieti from 18-21 July will have an opportunity to win full-board tickets to next year’s European Athletics Championships in Zurich. As part of the fifth edition of the European Athletics Anti-Doping Education Programme, athletes will be encouraged to take part in a series of activities aimed at helping enhance their knowledge of anti-doping issues. All participants will receive a bracelet and if they score more than a stipulated level of marks in the quiz, they will also receive a branded t-shirt with the slogans of the programme – I Run Clean, I Jump Clean, I Throw Clean. PARIS (FRA): Long distance runner Jackie Areson, who had dual citizenship since birth (Australia/USA) ran a personal best “A” qualifier of 15:12.09 9th place at Areva IAAF Diamond League meet and will represent Australia at the World Championships.
AUCKLAND (NZL): Since sustaining an ankle injury, New Zealand shot put talent Jacko Gill has rewritten and rejuvenated his training programme. New Zealanders might have to wait another year to see Jacko Gill unleash his potential on shot put’s premier international stage. The 18-year-old has suffered ongoing effects from an ankle sprain last year, not to mention recovering from 20 stitches round the bridge of his nose when he tried to break up a dog fight. Gill put in a heavy training stint in Sweden during April and, at a Queensland meet on July 20, he will look to qualify for next month’s world championships in Moscow. NZ media are informing.

BIBERACH (GER, Jul 8): World champion David Storl won a special shot put meet at the Market Square of Biberach with 20.86 m. 1000 spectators saw also European indoor champion Christina Schwanitz topping the women competition with 19.42 m.
METZ (FRA, Jul 6): European junior hammer champion Quentin Bigot improved here his season best to 76.97 m.
