CARTAGENA (COL, Jul 7): The 48th South American Championships ended with Brazil beeing the top nation with total of 47 medals (24-10-13). In last day programme olympic finalist German Lauro from Argentina achieved shot put meet record 20.87. Colombian runners won the 800 m races, Rafith Rodriguez 1:46.34 and Rosibel Garcia2:02.45. Jose Pena of Venezuela won the steeple 8:32.01 and Victor Fatecha of Paraguay the javelin 76.14. Brazilian wins for Jefferson Sabino 16.73 (+1.1) triple and Erika Oliveira steeple 9:54.97. Brazil won 3 out of 4 relays (both sprint 39.47 and 43.37 and women 4×400 m3:35.37). Only in the men 4×400 m Venezuela got the gold in 3:03.64.

SOTTEVILLE (FRA): French Pro Athle Tour continues on Monday in Sotteville with Olympic winner Sally Pearson as the biggest star of 100 m hurdles. 2009 World champion Ryan Brathwaite runs the men hurdles against Dayron Robles and improved Thomas Martinot-Lagarde. Trinidad champion Keston Bledman is in the 100 m and 2009 World medalist Alonso Edward of Panama in the 200 m. Three more top women to mention. Improved Almaz Ayana (2nd in Paris 5000 m) runs the steeple, world leader Yarisley Silva of Cuba is in the pole vault and Murielle Ahoure of Ivory Coast in the women 100 m.

DONETSK (UKR): At the 8th World Youth Championships to follow this week will be Jamaican sprinters Michael O´Hara (100 m, 200 m), Devaugh Baker (400 m) and Yanique Thompson in girls 100 m hurdles. Unusualy also Christofer Bryan could win the high jump for Jamaica. Cuba has also strong group of gold medal contenders, Lazaro Martinez in the triple jump and Santiago Ford in octathlon are the top ones. Kenya offers Robert Biwott in the 1500 m and Nicholas Bett with Justus Lagat in the boys and Rose Chepngetich in girls steeple. Australian Matt Denny could well attack first position in discus and hammer. In the latter one he will have it tough with South American record holder Joaquin Gomez of Argentina. Russian Anatoliy Ryapolov is the long jump headliner. Boys shout put should be exclusive duel of Konrad Bukowiecki from Poland against German talent Patrick Muller. Girls sprints are offering talented Swede Irene Ekelund against US Arianna Washington. Anita Hinriksdottir from Island is in the absence of US star Mary Cain the top favorite and ready for a fast time in the girls 800 m. Ethiopian power in Tigist Gashaw (1500 m), Turkey has shot put favorite Emel Dereli (already competed for example last year at World Indoors) and Russian traditionally in walking by Olga Shargina. Hungary offers this time girls hammed domination by Reka Gyuratz and Helga Volgyi. Venezuela is sending pole vault favorite and continental youth record holder Robeilys Peinado.

MONTEGO BAY (JAM): Garth Gayle, General Secretary of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), has described as “real sad” the situation that led to 400m hurdler Daeshon Gordon being left behind while the Jamaican team headed to the IAAF World Youth Championships in Ukraine last week. The 16-year-old American-born Gordon was unable to join her teammates, as she did not have the required documents that would confirm her Jamaican nationality to the satisfaction of the IAAF regulations, Gayle told the Jamaica Observeron Sunday. Gordon, whose parents are Jamaicans, is ranked third in the girls 400m hurdles after she ran a personal best 58.92 seconds to easily win the nationals.
PARIS (FRA): Anna Chicherova with her 201 on Saturday Paris cleared the 2 meters barrier for jubilee 40th time in a competition.
HAVANA (CUB): Cuban hurdler Orlando Ortega was suspended by his national federation for 6 months for serious misconduct. That means he will not be able to compete also at the World Championships in Moscow. His coach Kelvin Antunez was removed from the office, Cuban media are informing.
VIENNA (AUT): Two weeks after her hamstring injury at European Team Championships in Kaunas the Austrian hurdles record holder Beate Schrott recieved green light for easy training. In next two weeks she can train, but not touching speed or technique.
PARIS (FRA): The Saturday Areva IAAF Diamond League meet was also the farewell competition of French pole vaulter Romain Mesnil at age of 36. He cleared 530 as 11th, his season best remains indoor 562. Mesnil won two World championships silvers in 2007 and 2009 and jumped 595 personal best in 2003. Won 12 national titles and also European silver 2006 in Goteborg.

MOSCOW (RUS): All-Russian athletics federation announced team for European Junior Championships composed by 28 boys and 24 girls. There are some European junior season leaders in the list: Pavel Ivashko 400m, Timofey Chalyy 400mH, Mikhail Strelkov 10 000m, Valeriy Pronkin in hammer, Pavel Parshin for walking, Yekaterina Renzhina 400 m, Alyona Kudashkina 5000 m and Nadezhda Leontyeva for walking. “We are looking forward European Juniors with optimism” said senior coach of Russian national junior team Viktor Shpak. “We hope for about 20 medals including 7-8 golds. But I’m not sure it’ll be enough for first place in medal standings.”

LONDON (GBR): British media are informing that olympic long jump winner Greg Rutherford could miss World Championships in Moscow after pulling his right hamstring during the Areva meeting in Paris. Rutherford said on twitter: “Looks like bad news people. The old injury strikes. Hamstring pull.” On Monday he said on his twitter: “Off to find out the extent of the damage to my hamstring. Lets hope it’s not too bad.”
NAIROBI (KEN): Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) has expressed its confidence in Marrakech, Morocco hosting the 19th edition of the African Athletics Championships in August 2014. Marrakech will also host in the same year the IAAF Continental Cup. A signing ceremony was held in Marrakech between CAA and Morocco Athletics Federation for the championships, which will be held fromAugust 10-14, 2014. At the same time, Kampala, the capital of Uganda, was picked to stage the 2014 African Cross Country Championships in March.
MADRID (ESP): This Saturday IAAF World Challenge meet in Madrid will have good shot put field. World champion David Storl leads the entries.
