David Ezra, author of Asterisk: Home Runs, Steroids, and the Rush to Judgment, had some comments on the upcoming mea culpa by Lance Armstrong. I thought you, dear readers, might find them interesting in light of tonights Oprah fest with Lance Armstrong, today’s biggest sinner.
Attorney and Doping Author David Ezra on Lance Armstrong Confession
Says Ezra, human nature tends to forgive those who confess
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
IRVINE, CA – With speculation high that Lance Armstrong will publicly confess Thursday to using doping agents to enhance his athletic performance as the disgraced seven-time Tour de France former winner, Partner David Ezra of Berger Kahn is awaiting this confirmation with a complete lack of surprise.
Says Ezra, author of the 2008 doping book, Asterisk: Home Runs, Steroids, and the Rush to Judgment, “For at least six years, I’ve believed Armstrong had to be using performance enhancers.”
Ezra’s book examines the cultural, emotional, and environmental elements surrounding the 2007 downfall of Barry Bonds, taking a deeper look at the inner workings of steroid allegations and making a case that there is always more detail to any doping story, just like there surely is for Armstrong.
Says Ezra, “Many elite athletes who have confessed seem to fair better in terms of public opinion. We do like to forgive. On the other hand, there may be business associates and others who feel wronged or deceived, and they may want vengeance in court or otherwise.”
ABOUT ASTERISK: Baseball is facing a crisis as it is riddled with accusations of steroid and drug abuse, testing, and debates about whether or not records will need to include an asterisk. In attorney David Ezra’s book Asterisk, he explores the public trials of the baseball community and asks questions such as, Are accusations of steroid use justified? Or do today’s well-trained players, whose teams play in newly constructed ballparks, shatter records because the game has changed?
