COURSE RECORD FOR CHEROMEI

YOKOHAMA (JPN, Nov 18): Kenyan Lydia Cheromei won the 4th edition of Yokohama Women’s Marathon with the new course record time of 2:23:07. It was nearly 50 seconds improvement on the previous course record of 2:23:56 set in 2011 by Yoshimi Ozaki. Second Mizuho Nasukawa 2:26:42, she was the top Japanese but will not be selected automatically for World Championships in Moscow as she did not run below 2:23:59. Third Marisa Barros of Portugal 2:26:51 and fourth Jelena Prokopcuka of Latvia 2:26:55. Sub 2:30 also fifth home Mai Ito 2:27:06 and sixth Kim Smith from New Zealand 2:27:35. Seventh Mayumi Fujita 2:29:02. Briton Jo Pavey dropped out before 10 km and said on her twitter: „Really disappointed. Perfect preparation & then had sore throat sinceThursday night. Running can be so frustrating. Could not finish today.”

FAVORITE WINS FOR BETT AND WELDU

SORIA (ESP, Nov 18): Favorite wins at the 19th edition of Soria Cross Country race (2nd in the IAAF Circuit 2012/13). Kenyan Emmanuel Bett achieved 30:48 at the 10 km ahead of Eritrean Amanuel Mesel 30:51 and his another top runner John Kipkoech 30:57. Fourth Ugandan Moses Kibet 31:04 with best Spanish Ayad Lamdassem fifth 31:09. Antonio Jimenez was sixth 31:15. Eritrean Nazareth Weldu was the top female runner at 8 km (28:36) with Spanish Diana Martin second 28:38 and Azucena Diaz third 28:54 and Lidia Rodriguez fourth 29:00. Ireland´s Sara Treacy was top non-Spanish European as 5th (29:07). Interesting to note fourth place of Chinese former world 1500 m champion Liu Dong in veterans 3 km race in 11:15.

CHEROP COURSE RECORD

TORINO (ITA, Nov 18): Kenyan wins at the 26th Turin Marathon Gran Premio La Stampa. Former steeple runner Patrick Terer in his debut clocked 2:10:34 ahead of Daniel Rono 2:11:40 and Jackson Kirwa 2:13:29. Best non-African was Italian Stefano Scaini as 7th (2:16:26, PB). In women category top six achieved sub 2:30 results. Winner of Boston this year and Daegu world medalist Sharon Cherop clocked 2:23:57 course record ahead of Dutch representative Hilda Kibet 2:25:46 and home record holder Valeria Straneo 2:27:04. Fourth Ethiopian Derbe Godana 2:27:32 personal best ahead of Italian Emma Quaglia who improved from 2:31:15 to 2:28:15. Sixth Milka Jerotich debuted with 2:29:33 and ninth Iness Chenonge (former world finalist on the track) also in her first race ever at 42 195 m achieved 2:44:52. In all races 14 000 participants were registered.

DIBABA CLEARLY OVER GELANA

NIJMEGEN (NED, Nov 18): In expected duel of two olympic champions Tirunesh Dibaba clearly won the 29th Zevenheuvelenloop (7 Hills Race) at the 15 km with 47:08 (fifth fastest time ever). Tiki Gelana finished second in 48:09. Dibaba started faster than during her world record with 15:55 at 5 km (15:58 in 2009 when clocking the current world record 46:28 at the same race), but was at 10 km with 31:40 opposed to 31:23 in the record race. Third Bernadette Mutai 48:52 ahead of Lucy Macharia 49:00 and in debut at the distance former miler Gelete Burka was 5th 49:26. In men´s race world record holder Leonard Komon was second in 42:18 (13:55 world record pace at 5 km and 27:59 at 10 km) and beaten sensationally by Nicholas Kipkemboi 42:01. Third Eritrean Nguse Amlosom 42:28 over Kennedy Kimutai 42:29 and Ethiopian Abera Kuma 43:05. Kenyan Alfers Lagat was 6th (43:35) and 7th best European French Bouabdellah Tahri 43:49 in his longest competition race ever. Merel de Knegt was the top European in women race in 51:43 as 7th.

KANDA 2:08:14

VALENCIA (ESP, Nov 18): Kenyan Luke Kanda won the 32nd Maratón Divina Pastora de Valencia in fast 2:08:14, he just missed last years course record 2:07:59 of Isaiah Kosgei. Second Joel Kimurer 2:08:18 and third Ethiopian Gemechu Worku 2:09:59. First non-Kenyan Morrocan Hassan Ahouchar (37) 2:11:22 as fifth. In women category Ethiopian Birhane (still a junior) improved to fast 2:29:22 ahead of Amelework Fekadu 2:32:39 and Ukrainian Olha Kotovska 2:33:44. Fourth Brazilian Adriana da Silva 2:34:11. In total 9000 runners were registered. In the 10 km races wins for Robinson Chesire (29:53) and Joan Chelimo (32:17, 6200 participants).

NOISY-LE-GRAND (FRA): IAAF Council member Bernard Amsalem was re-elected president of the French Athletics Federation for the third time on Saturday at the FFA General Assembly. He got 51.04 percent of votes, the second candidate Daniel Arcuset 48.96 percent. It is possible that Amsalem will bid for the National Olympic Committee president in that case he will leave the athletics federation post. He will decide about it in January.

BUDAPEST (HUN): Best Hungarian Athletes of 2012 were awarded at a special gala evening. In senior category hammer throwers, olympic winner Krisztian Pars and European finalist Eva Orban. In the U23 category the 400 m runner Marcell Deak Nagy who was silver winner in Helsinki at European Championships and Jenny Ozorai again in hammer. Best juniors are Peter Bakosi (high jump world junior finalist) and Xenia Kriszan who won silver medal at World juniors in heptathlon. Best youth athletes again hammerthrowers Bence Pasztor and Reka Gyuratz.

NASSAU (BAH): Michael Sands was re-elected president of the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), informs Trackalerts. Sands defeated Iram Lewis for the top spot. Lewis, however, was elected as first Vice President while Phillipa Arnette Willie won the election for treasurer. Carl Oliver, the 2001 World 4x400m gold medallist, won as Secretary General and will have Mabaline Miller as his assistant. Lisa Mortimer will serve as assistant treasurer. Olympic and World 400m gold medallist Tonique Williams Darling will be the new Public Relations Officer.

DUBLIN (IRL): Walker Rob Heffernan was named as the Athlete of the Year at the National Athletics Awards of Ireland. He was fourth at the 50 km distance at the London Games with superb national record 3:37:54. Not surprisingly Heffernan was also awarded the Race Walker of the Year Award for 2012. Dundrum South Dublin (DSD) were the worthy recipients of the Performance Club of the Year Award. Mark English who is 800 m world junior 5th placer earned the accolade of Junior Athlete of the Year. The Endurance Athlete Award went to Fionnuala Britton, who struck gold at the European Cross Country Championships in Velenje last December. Britton was also the worthy winner of the Track and Field Athlete of the Year Award. Teresa McDaid of Letterkenny AC was the winner of the Coach of the Year. Irish media are informing.

MARATHONS

ELDORET (KEN, Nov 18): Weldon Kirui won the 6th Kass Marathon in 2:17:44, women winner was also for first time on the top position Agnes Jepkosgei in 2:41:30. East Standard writes the Course goes across the two athletic-rich Counties of Nandi and Uasin Gishu, beginning near Kapsabet town and ending at the Eldoret Municipal Hall. Second Peter Kosgei 2:18:47 ahead of Samuel Rotich 2:18:51, Hillary Kipsang 2:19:21 and Benjamin Koech 2:19:31. In women category Purity Kimeto clocked 2:46:40 for second and Sally Kimaiyo 2:46:49 for third with Frida Domongole fourth 2:47:40. In the accompanying 12 km race wins for African Champions Joyce Chepkirui (40:08) and Cosmas Lagat (35:22).

PALERMO (ITA, Nov 18): Ethiopian Mamo Taye won the 18th Palermo Marathon in 2:21:14. As best woman Giuseppa Chiolo clocked 2:59:59.

BANGKOK (THA, Nov 18): Kenyans John Samoei and Everline Atancha won the Standard Chartered 25th Bangkok Marathon. More than 40 000 runners took part in different races in heat and humidity, the marathon start was at 3 am. Samoei clocked 2:30:24 and Atancha 2:50:12 as 10th overall.

PHILADELPHIA (USA, Nov 18): Michael McKeeman who comes from Philadelphia suburbs won the Philly Marathon in 2:17:47. Second Scott MacPherson 2:18:30 debut and third Ethiopian favorite Abiyot Endale 2:19:11. Russian Irina Mashkantseva clocked not only new personal best but also course record 2:35:34. Second another Russian Venera Sarmosova 2:35:53 and third Katie DiCamillo 2:38:47 PB. In the Rothman 8k male course record was broken not once but twice on Saturday when Isaac Korir and Samuel Ndereba knocked down Marcus O’Sullivan’s time of 23:03 since 1997. Korir clocked 22:29 and Ndereba 22:46. Misiker Mekonen of Ethiopia was the top woman in 25:46.

HAVANA (CUB, Nov 18): More than 3000 runners from 52 countries in both the half and the full marathon competed at the 16th edition of Marabana Marathon. 2009 winner Jorge Luis Suarez was the best male in 2:23:19 PB and Yailen Garcia the top woman in 2:45:27.

OTHER RESULTS

CAUCO (COL, Nov 17): During last day of athletics at National Games world and olympic medalist Caterine Ibarguen won third gold in her special event. She achieved 14.00 (-0.9) in the triple jump. Rosibel Garcia won the 800 m in 2:02.33 and Eder Cesar Moreno improved national shot put record to 19.53 m. Wanner Miller cleared 220 in the high jump, Daniel Grueso won the 200 m (21.08) and Rafit Rodriguez after the 400 m also the 800 m in 1:47.34.

PERTH (AUS, Nov 16): At Strive Interclub meet new national record for Swaziland as Phumlile Ndzinisa clocked 24.02 in women 200 m.

BARCELONA (ESP, Nov 18): Carles Castillejo in 30:09 at 9.8 km and Marta Dominguez in 22:42 at 6.635 km won the 89th edition of the classical Jean Bouin race of Barcelona. In total on the circuit around the Montjuic Park some 15 500 runners were entered. In women race second Leah Jerotich22:45 and third Judith Pla 23:29.

TIBURTINO (ITA, Nov 18): Kenyan Peter Bii won the 13th Tiburtino race in 29:09 at the 10 km. Women winner Laila Soufyane of Morocco 34:54.

SESTO FIORENTINO (ITA, Nov 18): Nixon Sigei won the 11th Palio Fiorentino at 12.6 km with 35:03 ahead of Abraham Talam 36:00. Top woman Emma Iottelli 46:23.

BILLANCOURT (FRA, Nov 18): Ethiopian Mehari Baraki won the 16th Boulogne-Billancourt half marathon in 1:01:07 personal best. Second and third Kenyans Justus Moronga 1:01:11 and third Alfred Cherop 1:01:38. In women category also Ethiopian win for Tigist Kiros 1:11:11 beating Aynalem Woldemichael 1:12:43.

AGEO (JPN, Nov 18): Brett Larner writes on his blog that 2012 National University Ekiden Champion Komazawa University’s ace Kenta Murayama won with 1:02:46 lifetime best the the world’s deepest half marathon, the 25th Ageo City Half Marathon. Second Kento Otsu 1:02:53 and third Yuki Kawauchi 1:03:02. Although university entrants were at an all-time high 800, due in part to the windy, sunny conditions only 290 runners broke 1:10. The 100th position was 1:05:53. Saki Yajima won the women race in 1:15:47.

MONTEREY BAY (USA, Nov 18): Ben Bruce who is steeple Olympic trials 5th placer won the Big Sur Half Marathon in 1:04:46 what is his debut at the distance. Stephanie Rothstein-Bruce was the top woman in 1:13:00 PB ahead of Kenyan Risper Gesabwa 1:13:40.

RENNES (FRA, Nov 18): Kenyan Marceline Ondieki won the 5.67 km race at the Cross de Pace in France beating her colleague Nancy Omwenza 21:27, third Sandra Beuviere as top French 22:05. Simon Denissel won the men 9.85 km in 32:32.

ALLONESS (FRA, Nov 18): Cross „Le Maine Libre” had good quality fields. In women 6.06 km Ethiopian Hiwot Ayalew won in 19:44 ahead of top French runners Laurane Picoche 20:01 and Sophie Duarte 20:07. Paul Melly 28:21 and Albert Rop both of Kenya in 27:21 were the top two in men 9.4 km. Best French fourth placer from last year European CC event Hassan Chahdi in 27:25.
