SLESARENKO FOR SURGERY

VOLGOGRAD (RUS): High Jump Athens Olympic champion Elena Slesarenko is going to have a knee surgery in German clinic. She gave a birth to her daughter Elizaveta only three months ago and started training in a couple days after delivery. “It was just active moving like fitness and light lifting. I had to take care of my knee. But now is the perfect time for surgery. I have chosen the clinic very carefully because my future career will depend on surgery’s results. I hope I’ll able to come back into athletics” Slesarenko said for news agency „All Sport”. If all things go well she’ll come back home on November 3. “After that I’ll need 4 weeks of full rest and then probably I’ll go to Munich again for rehabilitation. But I hope to start my training again in December.” Slesarenko is going to continue her teamwork with Yevgeniy Zagorulko (also in the group Anna Chicherova and Andrey Silnov) despite his numerous declarations about ending his work in athletics after London Olympics. “We all kindly asked our coach to continue his work with our group and eventually he has considered it. As I understood Zagorulko will extend his life in athletics at least till World Championships in Moscow next summer”.

SAVITSKAYA PLANS FOR GOTEBORG

KRASNOYARSK (RUS): Russian media informed that national champion in heptathlon (6681 PB) Kristina Savitskaya is preparing seriously for Indoor season 2013. “I have to be selected for European Indoor Championships because of my last summer result and I want to compete in Goteborg very much. Now we are laying the foundation for winter high results” said 21-year old Russian who made her Olympic debut in London with 8th place.

NEW YORK (USA): New York Times writes that as the region assesses widespread storm damage, organizers for the New York City Marathon began work Tuesday morning to determine how Sunday’s race might be affected by flooding and power outages. “We’re assessing today with the city what the damage was and the ability to recover as quickly as possible,” said Richard Finn, a spokesman for New York Road Runners, the group that organizes the marathon. “The New York Road Runners is moving ahead with everything we can do to be on the way to putting on a great marathon this Sunday.” Many runners will have a hard time even arriving in New York. Mary Wittenberg, chief executive of Road Runners, said in a conference call Monday that an elite runner from Italy rerouted his flight to Miami and, weather permitting, to Hartford. Kenyan runners who typically arrive on the Tuesday before the race face delays as well. There are nearly 20,000 runners from overseas, and thousands of other runners who come from elsewhere in the United States.

TAMGHO READY TO RETURN

PARIS (FRA): Triple jump world indoor record holder Teddy Tamgho might compete this winter during the indoor season. But he will not have specific goals, French media are informing. After the june surgery he feels ok without pain. He will soon joining the Insep training conditions with coach Ivan Pedroso. „The goal is to be fit for next summer World Championships in Moscow,” said Tamgho.

ZELEZNY AND VESELY AT TENNIS

FASTEST MEN STARTED WITH TRAINING

KINGSTON (JAM): Fastest man on earth started with training for 2013 on Monday. Usain Bolt posted on his twitter: „It’s official..first day of training…Look our world.. The Lightening Bolt is coming again”. Earlier Bolt said: „The beginning of something great starts today…” Also the World champion 2011 Yohan Blake started on Monday with training for 2013 season which will be highlighted by the World Championships in Moscow. Blake has the wild card for the 100 m as defending champion, Bolt has wild cards for both sprints, in the 100 m as Diamond League winner and at the 200 m as title defender.

NAIROBI (KEN): Isiah Kiplagat said that AK will select the candidates early next year before putting them through a programme to be managed by local coaches ahead of the national trials on July 11-13 at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Kiplagat said the camps that preceded the 5,000m and 10,000m trials for both men and women’s teams proved resourceful even though Kenya failed to win medals in the categories in London. At the same time, AK president Isaiah Kiplagat has said they will not hesitate to hold the national trials for long distance races outside Kenya should a sports apparel manufacturer like Nike or other well-wishers sponsor them ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games.

AMSTERDAM (NED): With a new cabinet in place, the Dutch government has revealed they may no longer be interested in hosting the 2028 Olympic Games. Though in the last years Amsterdam has been preparing a potential bit for 2028, the new cabinet now believes the financial risks of hosting the event might be to big according to Dutch media.

BERLIN (GER): German decathlete Moritz Cleve has decided to switch events and will compete in the 400m hurdles in 2013. Cleve competed at the 2009 IAAF World championships as a decathlete but now, at 25 years of age, wants to make a succesful transition towards the hurdles. Cleve has joined the training group of Dietmar Ragsch reports leichtathletik.de.

LAUSANNE (SUI): Organisers of this weekend’s 2nd European Race Walking Conference in Leeds are looking forward to welcoming at least 65 participants from more than 10 countries to a programme that will address twin themes of „performance” and „development” writes European Athletics. The conference, the second of 2012’s European Athletics Coaching Summit Series, is hosted by UK Athletics and England Athletics with support from the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund and will take place from 2-4 November.

LAUSANNE (SUI): Double Olympic pole vault champion, Yelena Isinbayeva, announced her intention not only to continue to Rio 2016 but her determination to win her third gold. Isinbayeva was speaking to a group of high school children about life after sport, but she made it clear that she was not contemplating that just yet with another Olympics on the horizon. „I will only accept a gold medal. It just so happened that I won only a bronze in London but I aspire to becoming a triple Olympic champion.” Isinbayeva was quoted on European Athletics.

LONDON (GBR): Populous, the British firm behind the successful Olympic Stadium at London 2012, are among the companies shortlisted in the design contest for the remodelling of the Kasumigaoka National Stadium, which will be the centrepiece of the 2020 Games if Tokyo’s bid is successful next year. They have been chosen in the first round of selections along with another British firm, Zaha Hadid Architects, who designed the Aquatics Centre for London 2012 reports Insidethegames.

LONDON (GBR): Peter Eriksson is set about healing the rift with triple jump star Phillips Idowu after being named new coach of UK Athletics. The Swede, 59, who led Team GB’s Paralympians to huge success at London 2012, replaces Charles van Commenee. Van Commenee came close to kicking Idowu out of the athletics team on the eve of London 2012. In a final swipe at Van Commenee, Idowu tweeted: “Happy for Peter Eriksson. Met him in Italy a few years ago and he was actually coaching (not just a title).” according to The Sun.

YOKOHAMA (JPN): The organizers of the November 18 Yokohama International Women’s Marathon announced that two of its overseas invited elites have withdrawn. Kenyan Philes Ongori has pulled out with a leg injury, while Yolanda Caballero from Colombia has withdrawn due to poor fitness.

TORONTO (CAN): Athletics Canada officially named the athletes who will travel to Chiba, Japan for the 24th International Chiba Ekiden Road Race Relay on November 23. The unique event features teams of men and women running six alternate legs to cover the marathon distance o
f 42.195-kilometers. The Canadian team is led by 2012 Olympians Reid Coolsaet and Alex Genest. The team is also comprised of Krista DuChene and Lanni Marchant, both women have run under the 2013 World Championship marathon standard.

NEW YORK (USA): Sportspromedia.com informs that sports events and broadcast agency TV Media Sport (TVMS) has been appointed to distribute the TV, marketing and media rights for the 2013 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships across Africa. According to an official press release, TVMS agreed a deal with IEC in Sports to distribute the rights to the World Championships in Moscow, in addition to other events organised by the IAAF, across 48 territories throughout sub-Saharan Africa. The deal follows TVMS’s production and distribution of Uefa Euro 2012 for the African market in addition to the production and world feed for the 2012 African Senior Championships in Athletics.

VALLEY COTTAGE (USA, Oct 28): Ecuador´s Andres Chocho won the 50 km walk race in USA in new South American record 3:49:26. In this Panamerican Cup trials competition second Andreas Gustafsson of Sweden 3:50:47 personal best and third Canadian champion Evan Dunfee 3:59:58 in debut at the distance.

LUCKNOW (IND, Oct 30): During 28th National Junior Athletics Championships of India K. Dileep Kumar became the first Indian junior to go over 7000 points in decathlon. He scored 7020 points. The penultimate day’s competition witnessed six new national records in different age categories.

MINSK (BLR): Official web site of Belarusian Athletics Federations informed that on October 29 hammer throw World Junior champion from Athens 1986 Vitaliy Alisevich (PB 82.16) passed away at age of 45. After retirement from athletics in 2003 Alisevich worked in Belarusian State Border Committee.
