Jelimo at 400 m
KASARANI (KEN): Olympic winner at 800 m Pamela Jelimo will compete at Kenyan National Championships which are beginning on Thursday at 400 m. “I intend to work on my speed. I lost in Rome not because my sprint is poor, but because of a tactical error. I believe I pulled out of the crowd too early. So that is why I need to work on my speed and the National Championships will help rectify that,” she said for East Standard. The Olympic Trial women 10 000 m race with world champion Vivian Cheruiyot will be held on Friday.
Two sub 4 times at 1500 m

In the 800 m Yekaterina Poistogova bettered her personal best to fast 1:57.93 (6th fastest of 2012) over Yelena Kofanova 1:58.83, Yulia Tutayeva 1:59.40 PB, Tatyana Markelova 1:59.43 PB and Yekaterina Kupina 1:59.85 also life-time best. In men´s 800 m Stepan Poistogov was timed with 1:46.02 personal best.
Semenya in Finland
TURKU (FIN, Jun 13): The 800 m 2009 world champion Caster Semenya competed for first time in a 600 m race. At Paavo Nurmi Games she won with national record 1:25.56 ahead of Australian Tamsyn Manou 1:26.28 and Russian Tatyana Andrianova 1:30.74. It should be noted that Semenya´s current coach Maria Mutola clocked 1:22.87 in 2002 and the world best is even better 1:22.63 by Ana Fidelia Quirot of Cuba from 1997. Belarus Yekaterina Poplavskaya won the 100 m hurdles in 12.99 (+1.4) after running windy 12.85 (+2.4) in heats. On the men side Khotso Mokoena leaped to 813 (+2.0) in the long jump, Kenyan Josphat Kiprono won the 5000 m in 13:32.78 and Bilal Mansour of Bahrain the 1500 m in 3:39.66.
Rybalko 695, Mikhalchenko masters WR
YALTA (UKR, Jun 13): Second day of Ukrainian Championships saw Viktoriya Rybalko the former world finalist improving to 695 (+1.9) in the long jump over Marharyta Tverdohlib who also bettered her career best to 680 (+0.8). Men´s long jump was decided on count-back between Ivan Lykhachov (790, 783) and favorite Viktor Kuznetsov (790, 779). Andriy Semenov won the shot put (20.05) and Olena Kholosha the high jump (193). Here veterans jumped well Vita Styopina (36) was second 190 ahead of Irina Gerashchenko 190 and Vita Palamar (34) also 190. Fifth Iryna Mikhalchenko cleared new masters world record for 40+ category with 187. Ana Logvinenko won the 400 m in 51.34 over Natalya Pigida 51.42. Vitaliy Butrym clocked PB 45.90 to win men´s 400 m. Svitlana Shmidt 9:31.16 and Vadim Slobodenyuk 8:37.12 were the steeple winners. In tactical 1500 m gold for Anzhelika Shevchenko in 4:18.93. Interesting to note 23.19 (0.0) fastest 200 m heats time by Yelizaveta Bryzgina, in heats at 400 m hurdles Stanyslav Melnykov 49.80 and in the javelin qualification Oleksandr Pyatnytsa 84.32. Great things are expected from women 800 m final as in heats all winners clocked 2:01 times. In first Tetyana Petlyuk 2:01.79, in second Natalya Lupu 2:01.90, in third Olena Zhusman PB 2:01.15 and in fourth Yulia Krevsun 2:01.06 ahead of junior Anastasiya Tkachuk 2:01.16.

BOSTON (USA): The three American woman who will run the 2012 London Olympic Marathon –Desiree Davila, Shalane Flanagan and Kara Goucher– will run the 2013 Boston Marathon, John Hancock Financial announced. The announcement comes more than nine months before the April 15, 2013 event, and may be the earliest-ever elite athlete announcement for a major marathon. “Shalane, Desiree, and Kara have competed against the most talented women in the world with amazing results,” said Rob Friedman, head of Sponsorship and Event Marketing at John Hancock, through a media release. “The Olympics and the 2013 Boston Marathon should be no different. As individuals these women are fierce competitors, and as a team they prove themselves relentless. With Desiree and Kara previously making the podium in Boston and Shalane winning the Trials, they are sure to provide the millions of Boston Marathon fans with a race to remember.”
BERLIN (GER): Germany’s decathlete Michael Schräder has withdrawn from the combined events challenge in Ratingen which starts on Thursday. Schräder is having pain in his foot and will have to rest for at least another two weeks. His non-participation means Schräder will not be able to qualify for the London Olympic Games reports leichtathletik.de.
MADRID (ESP): The Madrid campaign to host the 2020 Olympic Games now officially has added the Olympic Rings to their logo as candidate city. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved Madrid, Tokyo and Istanbul as candidates to host the 2020 summer Olympics last May 23rd at the IOC Executive Board meeting during the SportAccord convention. Alejandro Blanco, bid chief and head of the Spanish Olympic Committee, said, “It’s another step forward in our journey. We are now a Candidate City and the IOC has also given a very positive assessment of our project. We now have to work hard to deliver a comprehensive dossier that shows everyone the strength of our bid and will help bring us the Games, which will provide a major boost for Spain.”
BOSTON (USA): The Boston Athletic Association has finalized their elite fields for the second annual B.A.A. 10-K scheduled for Sunday, June 24. Boston Marathon champions Geoffrey Mutai (2011), Caroline Kilel (2011) and Sharon Cherop (2012) headline the race. Mutai (27:19) and Kilel (31:58) were also the race winners last year.

Merve Aydin won the 800 m in new Turkish record 2:00.23. Svetlana Usovich was the best at 400 m (51.00) and junior Andrey Churyla cleared 225 to win the high jump.
UDEN (NED, Jun 13): Gregory Sedoc competed at Army championships with 13.75 and 13.68 times at 110 m hurdles.
DAEJON (KOR, Jun 6-9): At Korean National Championships Jung Sang-Jin achieved 82.05 in the javelin.
TASHKENT (UZB, Jun 1-2): Late addition but top marks from the International Open Cup Meeting in Tashkent. Olga Bludova clocked national record for Kazakhstan at 100 m with 11.12 (+0.7). Margarita Mukasheva (nee Matsko, married since last year) also of Kazakhstan achieved 1:59.79 at 800 m. Home Anastasiya Zhuravleva got 14.32 (+0.5) in the triple jump.
