Menkova sensational 78.19 NR
BREST (BLR, Apr 28): In her first 70+ meet since 2009 reigning olympic
hammer winner Oksana Menkova sensationally improved her own national
record to 78.19 at the Yevgeniy Shukevich Memorial meet. Her series:
76.50 – 78.19 – f – 70.34 – 71.94 – 75.04. It is also third best mark
ever coming close to world record region. “After some years finally a
high level result for me, national record and olympic qualifier. After
birth of my daughter my only aim was to come back in 2012 for the
Olympic Games. But this result surprised me, I was expecting a 75 mark.
My concentration will now be fully orientated towards the olympic
preparation,” said Menkova for the Belarus federation website. Pavel
Krivitskiy was a solid men winner with 79.10. Second place for Beijing
silver winner Vadim Devyatovskiy in his first official meet since the
Beijing story in good 77.72. Third Yuriy Shayunov 77.36. In men´s discus
Polish guest Przemyslaw Czajkowski got 63.42.
Pars 81.16 WL
VESZPREM (HUN, Apr 28): Daegu silver medalist Krisztian Pars achieved at
a local meet hammer world leading 81.16 m. It was his 46th competition
with 80+ mark (per Tilastopaja).
Ibarguen 14.95 WL
MEDELLIN (COL, Apr 28): Restrepo Grand Prix meet saw world leading
triple jump by another world medalist Catherine Ibarguen 14.95 m. She
was only 4 cm shy of her continental record. But in the men´s 400 m new
national record for Colombia by Diego Palomeque in 45.62 ahead of
Liemarvin Boni 45.77 and third place for Takeshi Fujiwara who achieved
Salvador national record 45.99. Miguel Lopez of Puerto-Rico won the 100 m
in 10.33 (-1.7) and home sprinter Darlenis Obregon was the fastest
woman in the 200 m (23.15, +1.1). Winner of the second race Erica Chavez
of Ecuador bettered her own national record to 23.36 (+0.5). In women
javelin home Flor Dennis Ruiz improved to 59.32 m.
USA winning all races
PHILADELPHIA (USA, Apr 28): In total 112 416 spectators saw this years
Penn Relays. The biggest crowd came to see USA vs. World relays with 49
810 (fourth biggest at Penn for Saturday). And US teams made their
pre-olympic statement winning all six races. Three world leads were
registered in the championships relays and also two new meet records (US
women 4×1 and 4×4). The team with Madison, Felix, Knight and Jeter
clocked superb 42.19 in the 4×100 m clearly ahead of Jamaica 43.31
(pretty strong composition Simpson, Stewart, A. Bailey, Fraser-Pryce)
and Nigeria 43.92. In the 4×400 m the quartett of McCorory, Felix,
Hastings and Richards-Ross 49.4 split clocked world lead and meet record
3:21.18 ahead of Jamaica 3:26.55 and USA Blue 3:27.08 over Great
Britain 3:28.71. USA red with Rodgers, Gatlin, Patton and Dix achieved
38.40 over Jamaica (N. Carter, M. Anderson, L. Clarke, O. Bailey) 38.98
and Trinidad 39.03. But in another race USA Blue (I. Williams, Crawford,
Kimmons, R. Bailey) was also fast 38.47 over Netherlands 39.26. This
was the only championships relay without a world lead (Racers 37.82). In
the 4×400 m USA Red with C. Smith, hurdlers Taylor and Jackson with
Merritt as anchor posted 3:00.15 over strong Bahamas 3:00.56 and Jamaica
3:03.28. In the first arce USA Blue achieved 3:03.13 over Belgium
3:04.32. In the sprint medley USA Blue 9:19.31 over USA Red 9:19.88
(with Bernard Lagat 3:57.2 mile split) and third Ethiopia 9:21.92. In
women medley USA Blue 3:42.85 over Great Britain 3:43.72 and Jamaica
3:45.79 (hurdles olympic winner Melaine Walker 52.5 her split). Kirani
James running for Grenada 4×400 m was reported to have the fastest split
43.8. His team was 12th overall (3:08.85).
Spearmon gets MJ record
DES MOINES (USA, Apr 28): At Drake Relays despite not very favourable
weather some top marks were registered. Wallace Spearmon confirmed great
early season shape with meet record 20.02 (+1.7) in the 200 m. The
previous mark of legendary Michael Johnson from 1997 was 20.05.
“Technically, this was my fifth try at the record. I started looking at
the clock early. I was trying to run a sub-20, but it was a little
chilly. I was just waiting for the wind gauge,” said Spearmon. Chaunte
Lowe showed she is in top shape with first attempt 198 clearence (missed
201) over returning Amy Acuff 185. Jenn Suhr returned after mall win
with 465 and tries at 480. Fast also the 100 m hurdles by Kristi Castlin
12.76 (+1.0) personal best over Nia Ali 12.83 and Canadian Angela Whyte
12.97. World champion Jenny Simpson won the 1500 m in 4:12.95. In other
women events Allison Peter of US Virgin Islands clocked 11.23 (+1.7) PB
in the 100 m. Keisha Baker won the 400 m (52.03) and Latosha Wallace
the 400 m hurdles (56.58). In men´s hurdles fast times for Ryan Wilson
13.20 (+1.0) over Omo Osaghae 13.24 and olympic and world medalist
Terrence Trammell 13.36. Daegu medalist Javier Culson of Puerto-Rico won
the 400 m hurdles in 49.02 beating Johnny Dutch 49.06. Isiah Young got
the 100 m in windy 10.08 (+2.2) and French Teddy Venel the 400 m
(46.00). World indoor champion Ryan Whiting was the best in the shot put
(21.31) over Zack Lloyd 20.64 and Canadian Justin Rodhe 20.36. Jamie
Nieto with 224 beat on count-back Ricky Robertson (224) in the high
jump. Also to note fast college 4×400 m times for Florida 3:02.41 ahead
of Arkansas 3:02.47.
OTHER US RESULTS
PHILADELPHIA (USA, Apr 28): At non USA vs World events at Penn Relays to
note Jamaican Jacques Harvey winning the 100 m in 10.26 (-0.7) and his
country-mates Andrew Riley (13.55, +0.6) and Hansle Parchment (13.61)
dominating the 110 m hurdles. In women college 100 m also Jamaican win
for Carrie Russell (11.41, +0.9). Jasmin Stowers was the best in the 100
m hurdles (13.05, +0.9). In the mile Molly Beckwith got 4:36.71 and in
the high school section excellent 4:39.28 win for 15 years old Mary
Cain.
TUCSON (USA, Apr 28): Ryan Milus posted at Double Dual Meet 10.28 (+0.1)
in the 100 m. Brigetta Barrett continues in top high jump results with
193 clearance. After Walnut win Georganne Moline posted another one here
at 400 m hurdles (55.37).
FORT COLLINS (USA, Apr 28): Jack Christiansen Invitational Joe Morris
clocked 20.77 in the 200 m and Casey Malone achieved 62.46 in the
discus. Long jumper and world indoor silver winner Janay DeLoach won the
100 m hurdles in 13.29 (0.0).
BERKELEY (USA, Apr 28): Amaechi Morton posted 49.43 at 400 m hurdles
during Brutus Hamilton Invitational. 800 m specialist Alysia Montano won
the 400 m in 52.16.
SAN MARCOS (USA, Apr 28): Jamaican Patricia Hall clocked at Bobcat
Invitational 51.58 in the 400 m. She also won the 200 m in 22.84 (+2.7)
ahead of Tameka Williams of St. Kitts 22.92. But Williams sped to great
PB in the 100 m 11.18 (+2.0). Her team-mate of St. Kitts Antoine Adams
won the 200 m in windy 20.41 (+3.9). Alexis Tanner leaped to 672 (+3.1)
in the long jump.
OTHER WORLD RESULTS
SAO PAULO (BRA, Apr 28): Bruno de Barros clocked fast 10.24 in the 100 m
in another local meet at Ibirapuera Stadium. World indoor champion
Mauro da Silva started the summer season with 789 in the long jump.
Aldemir Gomes achieved personal best at the 200 m in 20.42 ahead of
Rodrigues Viana 20.54 and Bruno de Barros 20.64. In women 100 m
Rosangela Santos got 11.24. Junior long jumper Jessica Alves improved to
655 cm.
SANTA FE (ARG, Apr 28): At South American GP Meet German Lauro equaled
his own Argentinian shot put record in first throw 20.43 m. Jennifer
Dahlgren achieved 71.38 in the hammer.
AIX-LES-BAINS (FRA, Apr 28): European champion Christophe Lemaitre
opened his season at a local meet with 10.45 against -1.7 wind. His
first top race will be in Rome on May 31 against Usain Bolt and Asafa
Powell.
DRAZEVINA (MNE, Apr 28): Hungarian Anita Marton improved to 18.48 meet
record and won the special shot put meeting Drazevina near Podgorica.
She is now closer to Hungarian senior record which is 18.62. Bosnian
Hamza Alic was the best in the men competition (19.86) ahead of Serbian
Milan Jotanovic (19.83).
HIROSHIMA (JPN, Apr 28): During first day of Oda Memorial Meet
Australian Tamsyn Manou won the 800 m in 2:02.56 meet record. 5000 m
wins for Kenyan runners Sally Chepyego 15:19.27 and Charles Ndirangu
13:36.29.
MERU (KEN, Apr 28): African steeple champion Richard Mateelong won the
5000 m at the AK Meet in 14:13.4. Mateelong said he will run at least
two other major meetings before the national trials in June. “I intend
to take part in the Doha and Shanghai meetings,” he said. Mercy Njoroge
won after the 1500 m also the 5000 m in 16:53.3.
TAIPEI (TPE, Apr 22): New national junior record at National School
Games at 110 m hurdles by Cheng Yun-Yin (18) with 13.63 (-1.2) in heats
and 13.65 (-1.1) in the finals (junior height).
TEL AVIV (ISR, Apr 28): Anastasia Muchkaev (that’s the correct name
spelling, according to her passport) improved again the national shot
put women record to 17.22 m.
ALICANTE (ESP, Apr 28): At Spanish Clubs 1st round Julia Takacs achieved
fast 21.14.57 in the 5000 m track walk. Eusebio Caceres sprinted the
100 m in 10.57.
KOSICE (SVK, Apr 28): Veldakova twins started the season at their home
meet. Triple jumper Dana achieved 14.04 (+1.5) and long jumper Jana 652
(+1.6)
SAO PAULO (BRA, Apr 28): National titles at the 10 000 m on the track for Gilberto Lopes 28:54.33 and Cruz Nonata 32:52.36.
BUDAPEST (HUN, Apr 28): National 10 000 m champions Laszla Tath (30:51.17) and Krisztina Papp (33:58.67).
BANSKÃ BYSTRICA (SVK, Apr 28): At track walking Milan Rizek achieved
43:09.2 in the 10 000 m ahead of Zdeno Babik 43:20.4 and junior Peter
