Nice runs by Ben True and Werknesh Kidane in the BAA 5ks! Ben ran 13:41 for the win and Werknesh ran 15:12, both new course records. Six thousand runners participated in the sunny and warm conditions. On the mile side, Collis Birmingham won the men’s elite mile in 4:06 and Morgan Uceny, the number one rated women at the 1,500m for 2011, won in 4:43.8. A very nice addition to the Marathon weekend, the BAA 5k and elite mile has quite a draw, staged at the finish line of the marathon.

PRE MARATHON RACES

BOSTON
(USA, Apr 15): Setting the stage for tomorrow’s 116th Boston Marathon, Ben True
and Werknesh Kidane smashed the course records at the fourth annual B.A.A. 5-K
held on the streets of Boston’s Back Bay. True, the defending champion who held
the previous record of 14:07 set last year, clocked 13:41, while Kidane ran
15:12, a massive improvement over Lineth Chepkurui’s one year-old standard
of 15:52. In men´s race second Sam Chelanga 13:43 ahead of Lani Rutto 13:46 and
New Zealand´s Adrian Blincoe 13:46 also. Kidane, whose husband Gebre
Gebremariam will run tomorrow’s marathon here, overwhelmed the field, handily
beating Ethiopian compatriot Aheza Kiros (15:21) and New Zealand’s Kim Smith
(15:26). Later in the mile the temperatures rose into the 70 degree range (21C)
and a slight wind blowing from the south, Morgan Uceny and Australian
Collis Birmingham captured B.A.A. Invitational Mile titles under clear blue
skies. Uceny clocked a winning time of 4:43.8, while Birmingham set a new
course record of 4:06.0. Uceny crossed the line just ahead of last year’s
winner, Marina Muncan of Serbia (4:44.5). 
Gabriele Anderson finished third in 4:46.3, while Treniere Moser rounded
out the four-athlete field in 4:48.0. Informs Race Results Weekly.

(ARG, Apr 15): Cuban Aguelmis Rojas De Armas won the Pampa Traviesa marathon in
good 2:15:21. Second Nicolás Ternavasio won the Argentinian title.

DABROWA
GORNICZA (POL, Apr 15): Hungarian Laszlo Toth won the 5th Dabrowski Half
Marathon in 1:04:14 ahead of Marian Blazinski who represents Germany 1:04:28.
In women race Moldova´s Lilia Fiscovici was the best 1:15:58.

(CHN, Apr 15): Additional results to Chinese National GP meet discus world
champion Li Yanfeng got 64.90 over 6th from Daegu Tan Jian who improved to
63.87 PB. Xue Fei won the 10 000 m in 32:57.69 and in the 110 m hurdles Ji Wei
won with 13.50 (0.0) over former world finalist Shi Dongpeng 13.76.

GREEN (USA, Apr 14): Zye Boey clocked solid sprint double at Hiltopper Relays
with 10.29 (+3.5) and 20.76 (+3.2). Gwen Berry improved in hammer to 71.95 and
Jade Nimmo leaped to 647 (+2.0) what is new Scottish record.

(USA, Apr 14): At George Mason Invitational Alan Webb ran a 3:43.28 1500 m
as fourth. Later he came back in the 5000 m and won in 14:15.54. Former NCAA
champion Robby Andrews in his pro debut won the 800 m in 1:49.08.

Sylvia Korzeniowska 1:34:11. In the 35 km Herve Davaux went 2:39:36.

NOTES TO RACES

PARIS
(FRA): In total 37 runners clocked sub 2:20. South African Hendrick Ramaala
chasing a fast time was the best veteran but clocked only 2:17:57 as 33rd.

ROTTERDAM
(NED): The fourth placer Stephen Kibet was earlier in the year winner of CPC
Half Marathon in Den Haag in 58:54.

NAGANO
(JPN): Alexey Sokolov who was fourth in Nagano (2:10:53) is not the Russian
marathon record holder.  Russia’s Aleksey
A Sokolov (not to be confused with his namesake Aleksey V Sokolov who
holds the Russian marathon record with 2:09:07) had a 29th birthday to
remember on Sunday.

DUBLIN
(IRL): Additional times for third Meucci 28:49 ahead of Spanish Chema Martinez
29:00. In women race second Purdue 32:10 ahead of Daunay 32:27 and Helen
Clitheroe 33:02.

ANNECY
(FRA): To add the female winner Jemila Wortesa of Ethiopia 2:40:28 and half
marathon bests Ezechiel Nizigyimana of Burundi 1:04:14 and Cynthia Jerotich
