with solid 11.18 (+0.8) at Auburn Tiger Classic. 2009 World relay medalist
Sheniqua Ferguson of Bahamas was even more impressive with world leading
personal best 22.64 (+1.9). Experienced Aretha Thurmond got 63.33 in the
discus. In men events Istanbul relay gold medalist Manteo Mitchell scored a nice

outdoor personal best. In the relays Pure Athletics (Salaam, Bledman of
Trinidad, Padgett and Ashmeade of Jamaica) got 38.64 over Florida 38.91 and
Canada 39.16. Fourth place for Star Athletics 39.54 with Trell Kimmons, Justin
Gatlin and hurdlers Dexter Faulk and Joel Brown. In the 4×400 m GW Express

100 m in 10.32, Yoey Hughes posted 45.99 in the 400 m ahead of hurdles world
champion Jason Richardson who improved his best at the distance to 46.96. In
the women 4×100 m HSI (L. Barber, M. Barber, Okagbare, K. Wilson) clocked

(GER, Apr 7): German long distance star Irina Mikitenko (39) showed good shape
before London Marathon. She was second at the traditional 66th Easter Run of
Paderborn in 31:44 at the 10 km. Kenyan Esther Chemtai won in 31:36. New record
in entries was 8935. The 5k split was 16:10 for her and she started to chase
Chemtai. Her coach and husband Alexander Mikitenko said: „She is no 10k runner
and also is not too young. The second half in 15:30 is very promising. She can
easily attack something around 2:22 in London.” Another German runner in top 10
was Susanne Hahn as 7th (33:20). On the podium third Ethiopian Belaynesh Fikadu
(31:50) ahed of another Kenyan Vicoty Chepkemoi (31:44). In the men´s 10k three
went under 28 minutes. 20-years old Ethiopian Mosinet Geremew in 27:53 ahead of
his team-mate Yigem Demelash (27:54) and Kenyan David Kipketer Kogei (27:57).
Pre race favorite and last weekend Brunssum winner Philip Yego was fourth
28:11. Despite winds respectable also the half marathon win for Philemon Rono
in 1:00:58 what was new course record. Second Hosea Nailel 1:01:07 and third
Julius Cheruiyot Koech 1:01:23 and former course record holder Charles Maina

Jamele Mason was the best at the 400 m hurdles (49.85) and Barrett Nugent beat

count with for European Championships in Helsinki. Briton Richard Kilty showed
impressive shape with 100 m personal best 10.23 (+0.3) and good 200 m win in
20.56 (0.0). In other 100 m race Ryan Milus achieved 10.29 (0.0) ahead of

of Indian Grand Prix. A former Commonwealth Youth Games victor and Asian
junior silver medallist, he is confident of making the London squad at the
right moment in the coming weeks. Former Asian champion Renjith Maheswary,
struggling hard to make a come-back, triple jumped his best in two years
to secure the top spot with a mark of 16.38m. He was a bronze
medallist in the Commonwealth Games at Delhi two years ago with a national

and field meeting in Kitale in 4:14.3. Favorite and former 800 m world champion
Janet Jepkosgei was tripped in the last lap and finished 6th, writes the
Standard. Second Janet Kisa 4:15.7 and third Winnie Chebet 4:16.0. Elkana Yego
was surprise male winner in 3:43.2 over Vincent Kibet 3:44.0 when pre race
favorite Haron Keitany did not contest the final. Former World Youth Silver
medallist Mike Too, on a come back attempt, finished third after
out-classing New Zealand’s Zane Robertson, the fan’s favourite, over the last
80m. Too clocked 3:44.7 while Zane, a 5000 m specialist was timed at
3:45.1. His twin brother, Jake, who surprised Kenyans by winning his semi-final
with ease, was placed seventh in 3:48.1. The 800m final saw favourites Asbel

(BER, Apr 7): First day of 41st Carifta Junior and Youth meet saw windy sprint
winners. Bahamas and Jamaica splitted the winners. O´Jay Ferguson of Bahamas
retained his boys under 20 400m crown with 47.32. In other 400 m finals also
Bahamian wins for Janeko Cartwright (boys under 17/ 50.05) and Rashan Brown
(girls under 20/54.92). The only other 400 m gold for Jamaica when Yanique
McNeil was the best in the girls U17 final (55.82). Young Shauna Helps
continued in winning ways after Jamaican School Champs and also won here the
U17 100 m for girls in 11.66 (+4.6). But boys 100 m U17 gold for Bahamas as
Cliff Resias achieved 10.67 (+3.6) just close before Jamaican Michael O´Hara
(10.68). In junior 100 m finals Bahamas Antonique Strachan got 11.22 with +4.4
ahead of her team-mate Carmiesha Cox (11.54). Jazeel Murphy finished strongly
to retain his boys under 20 title for Jamaica in 10.31 (+5.7). Silver also for
Jamaica as Jevaughn Minzie got 10.33. After first day Jamaica leads ahead of
Bahamas the medal table.

(JPN, Apr 7): The Kanaguri distance races meet saw young Kenyan Patrick Mutunga
at age of 17 (will be 18 in November) winning the 5000 m in good quality
13:21.36. Second Kensuke Takezawa 13:28.70 and third another Japan based Kenyan
Daniel Gitau 13:28.97 with last sub 13:30 in the race 13:29.50 of Tsuyoshi
Ugachi as fourth (PB). In women 5000 m Kenyans were top two Selly Chepyego
15:20.30 and Wainaina Murugi 15:21.77 with best Japanese Yuka Ando third with
15:43.67.

TOWN (RSA, Apr 7): Zimbabwe’s Stephen Muzhingi and Russia’s Elena Nurgalieva
won the 43rd running of the Two Oceans Marathon, a 56-kilometer road race
held in Cape Town, South Africa. The Two Ocean’s is South Africa’s second most
important ultramarathon after the Comrades. Muzhingi rebounded from a disastrous
ING New York City Marathon last November–where he missed the top athletes bus
to the start then ran 2:29:10– and clocked 3:08:08 to win by a narrow 27
seconds over Henry Moyo of Malawi (3:08:35). It was Muzhingi’s first victory at
the Two Oceans and the sixth by an athlete from Zimbabwe. Third Collen Makanza
of Zimbabwe (3:08:45). For Nurgalieva, today’s win in 3:41:55 represented her
fourth Two Oceans victory, and the seventh by one of the Nurgalieva Twins (her
sister Olesya, who did not compete this year, has won the race three times).
Second place went to Russia’s Natalia Volgina, over three minutes back
(3:45:29). American Devon Crosby-Helms, a 2:38:55 marathoner, took third
in 3:47:30. The top South Africans at today’s race were 40 year-old Gert Thys,
who finished fourth in the men’s race (3:09:42), and Adinda Kruger, who

(ROU, Apr 7): Romanian and Turkish walkers dominated the Balkan Championships
in walking here with participation from 6 countries. On the women side Romanian
Ana Rodean won women 20 km (1:35:17) and young wins for Turkish girls. Junior
10 km for Gamze Ozgor (47:54.21) and youth 5 km for Derya Karakort (24:17.39).
In the male events Serbian Predrag Filipovic was the best in the senior 20 km
