Joseph Ebuya, 2011 World XC Champ, duked it out with Imane Merga over the 9.95 kilometers that is the 22nd Cross de’L’Acier (EA Permit). Le Cross de’L’Acier is held in Leffrinckoucke, France. Ebuya put 25 seconds on Merga over the undulating course, showing that he has to be considered, not only for his cross country prowess, but also for his potential over 10,000 meters for next summer….And some thought the Kenyan marathon team was tough, my guess is that the men’s 5,000m and 10,000m team for London 2012 will have extra scrutiny on team members…

LEFFRINCKOUCKE
(FRA, Nov 27): 2010 World CC Champion Kenyan Joseph Ebuya defended his title at
the 22nd Cross de l´Acier (EA Permit) when he clocked 28:10 at 9.95 km. In rain
and wind he clearly beat reigning World CC champ Imane Merga of Ethiopia by 25
seconds (28:35). Another Ethiopian only 17 years old Fikadu Haftu (28:36).
Another Kenyan John Mwangangi was fourth (28:40) beating best French runner
Morhad Amdouni into fifth (29:10). Ethiopian 2:25 marathon runner Feysa Tadesse
was the best woman at 6.55 km in 21:09. Just one second behind her Almensh
Belete (21:10) and third Fionnualla Britton of Ireland (21:21). Turkish steeple
specialist Binnaz Uslu was fourth (21:54) ahead of best French Clemence Calvin
(21:58).

(ESP, Nov 27): Road world record holder Leonard Komon won the 27th edition of
Cross Llodio (EA Permit) with 29:15 at 9.2 km. Second Eritrean Kidane Tadese
29:17 and third another Kenyan Josphat Bett 29:28. Best Spanish Chema Martinez
was 7th (30:20). In women 7 km Italian win for Nadia Ejjafini in 26:03 clearly
over Portugal´s Leonor Carneiro 26:35 and Kenyan Rebecca Cheptegei 26:44.

TILBURG
(NED, Nov 27): The Warandeloop was not only EA Permit race but also national CC
championships. Ukrainian Vitaly Shafar won the men´s 10 km in 30:30 ahead of
Khalid Choukoud who got the home title (30:42) and Jesper Van der Wielen
(31:00). Fourth German Steffen Uliczka (31:03) in close finish over Dutch Abdi
Nageeye (31:03) and Ireland´s Mark Kenneally (31:04). European CC bronze winner
in 2009 Adrienne Herzog won the women´s 8 km in 27:29. Two seconds behind was
German Simret Restle (27:31). Third another German guest, the marathon
specialist Sabrina Mockenhaupt (28:09).

(BEL, Nov 27): Ukrainian Yulia Ruban won the third leg of Lotto CrossCup in
Belgium. At 6.25 km she clocked 21:00 beating home veteran Veerle Dejaeghere by
3 seconds (21:03). In men´s 9.41 km win for Atelaw Bekele (Ethiopian
representing Belgium) 28:00 ahead of Mulue Andon of Eritrea (28:09) and Ugandan
Peter Kibet (28:20). Best Belgian was Lander Tijgat as 6th (28:30). The „Ereprijs
van Vlaanderen” event was also EA Permit race.
OTHER CC RACES
AMORA
(POR, Nov 27): Last Portugal qualifier for European CC in Velenje was the 22nd
Cross da Amora. European bronze medalist Dulce Felix won the 6 km women in
31:01 edging Ercilia Machado 31:14. Rui Teixeira was the best in men´s 10 k
(32:00) ahead of Pedro Ribeiro (32:03) and Ricardo Ribas (32:16).
VOLPIANO
(ITA, Nov 27): Italian trials were part of 1st Cross della Valsugana. Stefano
La Rosa won the men´s 9 km (26:59) ahead of Gabriele De Nard (27:05) with
Kaddour Slimani third (27:15) and Patrick Nasti fourth (27:22). Valeria Straneo
was the best in women 7 km (24:03) clearly over Valentina Costanza (24:42) and
Giovanna Epis (24:43).
GUJAN-MESTRAS
(FRA, Nov 27): Kenyan Paul Melly won after Volvic on Saturday also the 38th
Cross Sud Ouest here with 27:33 at 9.895. Isaac Mukundi (27:34) and Salim Saiti
(27:39) both of Kenyan were close second and third. Driss El Himer headed the
home challenge as fourth (28:03). In the women 6.35 km also a Kenyan win
for Elisabeth Chelagat (19:59) five seconds ahead of French 2009 winner here
Sophie Duarte (20:04) and third Martha Komu (20:37). Russian Yekaterina
Shlyakhova was fourth (20:39).
ELDORET
(KEN, Nov 27): World Half Marathon Champion Wilson Kiprop and 2010 World CC
winner Emily Chebet (27:02.6 at 8 km) were the best at the 5th Tuskys Wareng
Cross Country meeting in Eldoret. Second Dennis Kipruto (35:01.9) ahead of
Nicholas Togom (35:04.0). In the 8 km race Gideon Kipketer got 23:04.7 beating
Abraham Kasongor 23:26.8. Behind Chebet second Farida Chelagat (27:05.2) and
third Georgina Rono (27:08.0). Agnes Chebet won the 6 km for women (20:04.7).

(FRA, Nov 27): Former Kenyan (now running for France) Abraham Kiprotich won the
CC Hubert Andre with 23:49 at 8.1 km. Godelieve Nizigiyimana of Burundi was the
best woman at 4.38 km (15:15).
OTHER ROAD RACES
KAMPALA
(UGA, Nov 27): Kenyan James Kariuki in 2:16:16 took the top prize but Ugandans
dominated the shorter races in the 2011 MTN Kampala Marathon. Ugandan women
record holder Jane Suuto was the best in 2:47:06 in the marathon. Home star and
former World champion in steeple Dorcus Inzikuru dominated the women’s 21km
race, and Onesmus Kikoech Serem the men’s category. In the 10 km races Ugandan
wins for Viola Chemos (35:30) and Abraham Kiplimo (29:33) beating steeple
hopeful Jacob Araptany (29:35). Local media are informing that the proceeds
from the 20 000 runners will go towards providing clean water to the people of
Amuria District.
ADDISA
ABABA (ETH, Nov 27): IAAF informs that Mesenet Geremew (28:37) and Abebech
Afework (32:59) were the deserved winners of the men’s and women’s races
respectively in the 2011 CBE Great Ethiopian Run 10km road race in the
Ethiopian capital. A record 36,000 people competed in the 11th running of
the race that brings some of Ethiopia’s young and upcoming running talent to perform
on a bigger stage. Second Yigrem Demelash 28:44 and third Kenyan Nicholas
Kipkemboi 28:47. In higher quality women field second Tiki Gelana 33:06 and
Atsede Habtamu third 33:12 ahead of Hiwot Ayalew 33:22.
PUEBLA
(MEX, Nov 27): Kenyan wins at the marathon here for Isaac Kimaiyo 2:19:42 and
Genoveva Jelagat 2:45:13.
LEON
(MEX, Nov 27): Robert Letting of Kenya won the 11th 21 km road race of Leon in
1:03:20. Risper Gesabwa took also the women win for Kenya in 1:13:24.
NANCY
(FRA, Nov 27): Kenyans Alfred Cherop (29:55) and Leonida Mosop (35:03) won the
10 km road race here.
BILBAO
(ESP, Nov 27): Kenyan wins at 23rd Santurce road race at 17 km. Ezekiel Meli
achieved 44:59 and Joan Chelimo 53:43.

(NZL, Nov 26): Brendon Barnett leaped to national U17 record in the long jump
736 cm (+1.2).
MANAGUA
(NCA, Nov 26): Talented 14 years old sprinter Arturo Deliser of Panama clocked
after 100 m also new meet record at Central American U15 Championships in the
150 m with 16.51 (+2.0).
