HAILE WINS AGAIN
BIRMINGHAM (GBR, Oct 23): Legendary olympic winner and
world record holder Haile Gebrselassie after dropping out of last month’s BMW
Berlin Marathon bounced back to winning form with a runaway victory at the Bupa
Great Birmingham Run. Gebrselassie content in the early stages to follow a
sedate pace set by Essa Rashed, turned on the power between seven and eight
miles to break clear for an untroubled success in a time of 1:01:29. Qatari
Essa Rashed finish runner up in 1:02:28 while Morocco’s Abderrahime Bouramdane
fourth in last month’s IAAF World Championships Marathon, was third clocking
1:03:57. “It was a fantastic race for me except for the wind and it was really
hard between 11 and 12
miles. It reminded me of the sort where I do my training
back home in Addis Ababa,” said the World’s
greatest ever distance runner who after his Berlin
setback will contest his next marathon in Tokyo
in February. He is also scheduled to run 15 km in November in Nijmegen. Gemma Steel added to her growing
reputation when adding Louise Damen to the list of the top British women she
has beaten this year when also flying to a lifetime best mark of 1:12:21.

KIROP NEW WOMEN CR 2:23:37
VENICE (ITA, Oct 23): Excellent women course record
at the 26th Venice Marathon. Kenyan Helena Kirop clocked fast personal record
and fastest ever here 2:23:37 (former CR was 2:27:02). Title defender Ethiopian
Harun Makda achieved as second also fastest of her career 2:27:30 with third
place going to another Ethiopian Fantu Jimma 2:30:25. Best European as fifth
the Russian Yevgeniya Danilova clocking 2:33:35. Also in men´s race at the San
Marco square finish the winner of 2010 was second. Kenyan Simon Mukun with
2:09:19. Ethiopian winner Tadese Aredo was faster by 6 seconds (2:09:13). Third
and last under 2:10 was another Ethiopian Debebe Wolde 2:09:57. Italian veteran
Danilo Goffi at age of 38 was the best European as 7th in good 2:14:41. 7000
runners participated.
TOO FASTEST EVER IN LJUBLJANA 2:08:29
LJUBLJANA (SLO, Oct 23): New course record at the 16th
Ljubljana Marathon. First ever sub 2:10 result here is 2:08:29 by Kenyan Daniel
Too. He will get 19 000 EUR in prize money and record bonus. Interestingly he
equaled his best from Paris 2010 when he was 5th. Second Joseph Lagat achieved
2:08:50 PB and third Michael Chege in debut 2:09:12. Also under 2:10 Ethiopians
Berhanu Shiferaw 2:09:19 PB and Alemayehu Shumye 2:09:38 at positions 4 and 5. In women category also a
Kenyan win for Lydia Kurgat in 2:33:01 ahead of team-mate Jane Rotich 2:33:42
PB and Ukrainian Olha Kotovska 2:35:04. Best Slovenian Neza Mravlje as 5th in
lifetime best 2:42:00. In total 12 036 runners participated in all races.
TAGHRAFET 2:08:21
BILBAO (ESP, Oct 22): Second fastest ever marathon in
Spain
at the Bilbao Night Marathon. Moroccan Abdellah Taghrafet improved his personal
best and course record to 2:08:21. As per Tilastopaja it was his debut with
1:01:36 half best from 2010. Way back second placer Tewodros Ashaw of Ethiopia
2:19:19. Women winner Meseret Terefe of Ethiopia achieved 2:53:36 ahead of
Spanish triathlete Cristina Alles 2:56:17.
BIWOTT 2:07:03, NEW NR FOR ERITREA
CHUNCHEON (KOR, Oct 23): New course record also at 65th Chosunilbo
Chuncheon International Marathon. Kenyan Stanley Biwott achieved 2:07:03 ahead
of Olympic 8th placer Yared Asmeron of Eritrea 2:07:27. For Biwott big
personal best but for Asmeron new Eritrean record. He was better by one second
than Samuel Tsegay last weekend in Amsterdam.
Third another Kenyan Nelson Kirwa got 2:10:46. In domestic women race Jung Hee
Oh was timed with 2:41:23. IAAF informs that men winner will get 50 000 USD for
victory and 20 000 USD for the course record.
COURSE RECORD FOR MEN
TOULOUSE (FRA, Oct 23): Kenyan Patrick Korir clocked
2:11:36 to win the 5th Marathon du Grand Toulouse.
It was new course record and personal best for last year second placer. Second
title defender Benjamin Bitok in 2:12:22. Women winner Alice Serser from Kenya got
2:37:06 personal best ahead of Ethiopean Shewaye Kebede who debuted in 2:38:24.
In total record participation of more than 4000 runners in all races.
START WITH RECORD
GUADALAJARA (MEX, Oct 23): Athletics started at Pan-Am
Games with new Games record. Jamy Franco of Guatemala won the women 20 km walk in new event best
1:32:38. It was also new PB for her. She was 19th at World Championships and
previous games record was 1:34:19 by Mexican Graciela Mendoza in 1999. Silver went also to Guatemala when
Mirna Ortiz the national record holder (1:32:30) clocked 1:33:37. Bronze for
another Daegu participant Ingrid Hernandez of Colombia in 1:34:06. Still to be
held on Sunday men 20 km
walk and women marathon. Track action starts on Monday.
TRACK RESULTS
PORTLAND (USA,
Oct 17): Commonwealth Games discus winner Krishan Poonia during her training
camp in Oregon
again improved her season best to 62.25 m.
NANCHANG (CHN, Oct 21-22): More top junior marks at the
7th City Games in China.
Tilastopaja reports that World youth silver winner Wang Chanyu improved at 800 m to 2:02.96. Also in
other distances personal bests for Guan Yue 4:11.25 in the 1500 m and Li Jiayi 15:43.71
in the 5000 m.
On the boys side Xu Xiangchao achieved personal best 49.87 in the 400 m hurdles (will be 18
next week) and Zheng Dongsheng posted 10.35 in the 100 m (+0.6).
OITA (JPN, Oct 22): Impressive high school time in
the men´s 5000 m
by Kenyan Charles Ndirangu 13:15.44 at Oita Challenge Games.
ROAD AND CC RESULTS
BROOKLYN (USA, Oct
22): The inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll New York 10 km in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park
saw Bronx’s Ketema Nigusse took first place in
the men’s race in 29:02. Bekelech Bedada of New York City was the best in women´s race in
34:08.
BOIS GUILLAUME (FRA, Oct 23): French Half Marathon titles for Djamel
Bachiri 1:04:27 and Fatiha Klilel-Fauvel 1:12:38.
GRODNO (BLR, Oct 23): Olga Kravtsova won the 6 km race at the Belarus CC
Championships in 20:44. Second Olga Rezkaya (21:22) and third Marina
Domantsevich (21:45). Sergey Platonov won the men´s 8 km in 24:32. Second Igor
Teteryukov 24:47 and third Maksim Pankratov 24:53. In short races wins for
Natalya Koreyvo 10:16 (3 km)
and Sergey Cheberyak 12:01 (4
km). The event was also selection for European CC
Championships in December in Velenje.
GUADIX (ESP, Oct 22): Poland´s Agnieszka Dygacz won the 3 km walk race at the Alcalde
Memorial in 14:34. Men´s 5 km
race winner was Luis Manuel Corchete in 21:06 ahead of Jakub Jelonek of Poland
21:14.
ELCHE (ESP, Oct 22): 6th road mile winners here came from Morocco. Samir Bouychamane 4:16 in
men´s category and Fatima Ayachi in women´s (5:00).
DRESDEN (GER, Oct 23): Kenyan Isaac Cheruiyot won the
13th Dresden Marathon in 2:21:51. In women race Ethiopian Ayisha Bonsa got
2:43:39 ahead of Kenyan Prisca Kiprono 2:48:29 and Poland´s Krystyna Kuta
2:49:33.
ROSTOCK (GER, Oct 22): The team from Kiel won the 6th Crosstock Team Cross race at
18 km
from 47 participating teams. In the team of the winners also German steeple
champion Steffen Uliczka who achieved during his part 51:38. Teams were
composed of three runners.
HOLE (NOR, Oct 22): Top Norwegian marathon runners competed again the 10 km road races. Urige Buta
won the Hytteplanmila event in 28:56 ahead of Eritrean Musael Temsegen 28:58
and Swedish Eric Senorski 29:53.
