WARSZAWA (POL): Second Kamila Skolimowska memorial will be a late
highlight of track season in Poland
on Tuesday. Organisers from the Kamila Skolimowska Foundation headed by parents
of the hammer thrower who died suddenly during a training camp in February 2009
assembled six Daegu medalists. In women hammer throw world champion Tatyana
Lysenko will compete against 2009 World gold medalist Anita Wlodarczyk. In men
shot put Daegu silver winner Canadian Dylan Armstrong and US 2009 world
winner Christian Cantwell will contest a special shot put (with four different
implements each two throws) together with home olympic winner Tomasz Majewski.
Men´s hammer will see silver and bronze Daegu winners Krisztian Pars and Primoz
Kozmus against home Szymon Ziolkowski and European U23 Champion Pawel Fajdek.
In men´s discus Daegu silver medalist and olympic winner Gerd Kanter will face
world leader Zoltan Kovago of Hungary
and home star Piotr Malachowski. Men´s 800 m will have Marcin Lewandowski and Adam
Kszczot running. Special guest for first time in Poland, South African Blade
Runner and now also relay medal winner from World Championships Oscar Pistorius
in the 400 m.
Legendary Merlene Ottey will compete in the 100 m against Polish elite
and British duo Douglas-Onuora. In shape home runner Renata Plis wants to
attack seasonal world lead in the women 1000 m. Malgorzata Trybanska, Teresa Dobija and
coming from Talence Karolina Tyminska will compete in long jump against Slovak
Jana Veldakova and Margrethe Renstrom of Norway.
ARMSTRONG 21.75
TANGIER (MAR, Sep 18): At Meeting d’Athlétisme Moulay El Hassan top shot
put when world medalist Dylan Armstrong achieved 21.75 and clearly beat Marco
Fortes of Portugal 20.61 and 2009 World champion Christian Cantwell 20.58. US
world champion Jenny Simpson won the 1500 m in 4:15.07 beating improved Ukrainian
Anna Mishchenko 4:15.13, French Hind Dehyba 4:15.55 and former world champion
Tatyana Tomashova of Russia 4:16.38. Mohamed Moustaoui celebrated expected home
win in the 1500 m
(event of main organiser Hicham El Guerrouj) in 3:36.33 ahead of Abdelaati
Iguider 3:36.57 and Kenyan Cornelius Ndiwa 3:38.69. Briton Dwain Chambers
clocked 10.28 (-0.4) to win the 100
m ahead of home record holder Aziz Ouhadi 10.32. Third
Jamaican Ainsley Waugh clocked 10.40 but later won the 200 m in 20.71 (-0.1) beating
Ouhadi 20.85 and Chambers 20.86. Gideon Gathimba scored Kenyan win at 3000 m 7:50.94. And Isa
Phillips was the best at 400 m
hurdles 49.62 beating Aleksandr Derevyagin 49.92 and Felix Sanchez 50.13.
Bahamian Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie scored a sprint double 11.46 (-2.2) and 22.81
(-1.4). In both cases second Ukrainian Mariya Ryemyen 11.46 and 22.84. Jemma
Simpson won the 800 m
in 2:02.21 ahead of Moroccan Malika Akkaoui 2:02.65. Hana Titimets of Ukraine was the
best in the 400 m
hurdles 57.29. In technical events wins for home Yahya Berrabah 804 (0.0) and
Romanian Viorica Tigau 624 in
the long jump.

BERLIN (GER): Discus world champion Robert Harting
plans a knee surgery in autumn. He finished his season unbeaten on Sunday. “I
had examinations on Friday in Heidelberg
and the only solution to my right knee is a surgery,” he said. The possible
date is November.
LONDON (GBR):
UK Athletics chairman Ed Warner has revealed that London are looking to host the International
Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Athletics Championships if they are awarded
the 2017 World Athletics Championships later this year. London are currently
locked in a two-horse race with Doha for the prestigious event with the
International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) set to decide on
where the 2017 competition is staged at their Council meeting in Monte Carlo on
November 11.
LAUSANNE (SUI): Athletes face an increased volume of
blood-tests in the run-up to London 2012 following a new directive by the World
Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Meeting at
the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne, the WADA
Executive Committee accepted a recommendation that all anti-doping
organisations ensure that not less than 10 per cent of samples collected are
blood specimens. Only four percent of all doping control samples collected in
2010 were for blood, mostly for passport programmes. WADA also approved the
list of prohibited substances and methods for the Summer Olympic year of 2012.
One of the most significant changes was said to be the removal of asthma drug
formoterol from ‘Section 3 Beta-2 Agonists’ of the list when taken by inhalation
at therapeutic doses. Inhaled formoterol at therapeutic doses is no longer

Martin Mathathi is the seventh fastest in history. 58:47 by Sammy Kitwara is
the fastest 2nd place time (fastest losing time) in history. The course record
for Philadelphia
is third fastest behind Lisboa and Den Haag. Emmanuel Mutai, who was 3rd in
Great North Run and Mathew Kisorio, who won in Philadelphia,
became 75th and 76th runner, respectively, to crack 1 hour for the half
marathon.

champions are Sindre Buraas 31:13 at 10 km (ahead of Sondre Nordstad Moen 31:34) and
Kirsten Melkevik 20:37 at 6km.
HALDEN (NOR, Sep 18): Finland
won Nordic Walking Challenge with 92 points ahead of Sweden,
Norway and Denmark. Senior 20 km winner Heikki Kukkonen
1:24:08.
PROVIDENCE, (USA,
Sep 18): At the USA 5K Championships hosted by the CVS Caremark Downtown in Providence on Sunday
morning, Ben True and Julie Culley won national road titles and the Open races
overall in 13:44 and 15:42. Second KEnyan Sam Chelanga 13:46 ahead of Aaron
Braun 13:46. In women competition second Kim Conley 15:50 and third Emily Brown
15:58.
