Well, the orchestration of the AREVA Paris meeting was, nearly perfect. The last three events, the mens’ 110m hurdles, the men’s 1,500 meters and the men’s 200 meters closed it spectacularly.
The women’s 100 meters, where Kelly Ann Baptiste ran one of her best executed races ever, (runners 1 and 3 in that race were coached by Coach Braumann, who now has five male sprinters under 10.00 this year as well), and provided just a great competition, between Baptiste, Campbell-Brown and Stewart.
The 110m hurdles was a match of two different styles, and Robles and Oliver were together from the third hurdle. The difference was a bit of experience, as Robles leant just a bit earlier and Oliver responded just a bit later. Oliver noted the need to be completely on game with Robles. What these two have is respect for each other, and with Liu Xiang, it could be one of the highlights of Daegu!
The men’s 1,500 meters was a fast, exciting race, and Amine Laalou put it all out there, holding off Kiprop and Lagat. Lagat is rounding into form and looks dangerous over the 5,000 meter distance. I believe he is the prohibitive favorite in Daegu, if the field lets it dawdle. Lagat is at the top of his racing game. Nice to see Nick Willis, our Kiwi coached by Ron Warhurst, running so well. Just a nice guy and fun racer.
Very happy to see Matt Centrowitz, Jr., Leonel Manzano and Andrew Wheating make the standard. Andrew has woken up and is racing once again. And Leonel-when he is on, he has the finish of a Rui Silva. Matt Centrowitz has got some real power there, and I want to see him mix it up in Daegu.
Usain Bolt-What can you say? Even when he is sick, the guy runs a 20.03, and he was totally relaxed out there (he looked beat afterwards). Lemaitre is showing that he has the patience and drive to develop into a world challenger, and the French crowd loved him and Lavillenie!
Now, time to write about ARIVA Birmingham, and see some serious triple jumping and 5,000 meter running, among other events (saw Tomasz Majewski, so know that Circus Athleticus-the shot put world tour–is here, will be a lot of fun to watch the guys throw the sixteen pound ball of steel).
Bolt running with flu, Robles over Oliver by 0.003
(FRA, Jul 8): 8th stop of Samsung Diamond League, AREVA at Stade de
France on the new Mondo track registered four world leading marks, two
meet records. Bolt won, but was close not to compete due to flu, Robles
beats Oliver by 0.003 and home crowds (49 174 the biggest of the year in
the SDL and could be only beaten by Van Damme of Brussels due to the
capacity of the stadiums) celebrated wins for Mekhissi in steeple and
Lavillenie in pole vault.MEN
m: Bolt despite flu wins and continues with unbeaten streak at the
distance. Problems of starting equipment caused a nearly 15 minutes
delay. Second Lemaitre improved his European lead of the season to
20.21.
400 m: World
indoor champ Brown back to winning ways, but was the only one with sub
45 seconds (44.94). Jonathan Borlee confirms number one in Europe and
Oscar Pistorius again sub 46 but not enough for Daegu.
1500 m:
Continental Cup winner Laalou gets his big win here in 3:32.15 over
Kiprop and Lagat. Excellent depth with 12 runners under 3:35. French
Yoann Kowal improves to European lead 2011 3:33.75.
Steeple: Big
French win for MMB in personal best, European lead and second fastest of
the year 8:02.09. World champ Kemboi beaten. Junior Jairus Kipchoge
improves to 8:11.31 as 5th and Poland´s Parszczynski by 10 seconds to
8:15.47 as 8th.
110mH: The
race was close but faster times were expected. Robles was leading all
the way and got it in 13.087 over Oliver 13.090 and remains unbeaten.
HJ: A tie at
232, Dmitrik was ready to continue, Baba was happy with a tie. Small
worlds final with all except J. Wiĺliams and Shustov competing.
PV: Lavillenie
cleared in second 573 and that was it. Other five jumpers did not
manage at that height. He won at the meet for third time.
LJ: Saladino
saved it in 5th round 840, otherwise would be fourth with second best
819. Britons were close, Tomlinson national record 835 (also European
lead) and Rutherford season best 827.
DT: Harting
won despite knee problems with only valid throw and is unbeaten so far
in this summer, Malachowski (6 cm) and Kanter (8 cm) were close.
100 m:
Baptiste from Claremont camp of coach Brauman was a winner in 10.91
(+0.6, only her fourth race of the season) with a better start over
disappointed VCB 10.95 and Stewart 11.04.
800 m: Caster Semenya won her first Diamond League in 2:00.18. Expectations were for a faster time.
5000 m: Defar is faster and faster, world leading 14:29.52 over Ejigu 14:31.66.
400mH:
Surprise of the evening, Zuzana Hejnova improved hugely to world leading
and national record 53.29 and beat all main rivals (except of Demus)
for Daegu.
TJ: Yargelis
Savigne leaped in fourth round to world leading 14.99 and is promising
15 in next meet. Saladuha also confirms top shape with 14.81.
SP: Valerie
Adams got 20.78 (equaled meet record and season best) and 20.72 to win
over all main rivals. Second Ostapchuk 20.49 and third Camarena-Williams
equaled US record 20.18. Fourth Borel-Brown also Trinidad record 19.42.
Good quality also in depth.
JT: First
throw of Obergfoll decided, 68.01 was a world lead and meet record.
Spotakova responded in second with season best 67.57 (and had also 65.82
in last throw) with Abakumova this time third (65.12).
PASZTOR 82.60 IN HAMMER
LILLE
(FRA, Jul 8): During third day of World Youth Championships Romanian
Ligia Grizav won the high jump with 187 on count-back with Irina
Herashenko of Ukraine. Jamaican Chanice Porter won the bronze (182).
Kate Veale dominated in the girls 5000 m walk and won for Ireland first
gold medal at this event with world leading 21:45.59. Silver for Mao
Yanxue of China 22:00.15 and third Russian Nadezha Leontyeva 22:00.84.
Home win for Sokhna Galle in the triple jump (13.62). Chinese Liu Jingyu
was second (13.57) and bronze for Ana Peleteiro 12.92. US Armin Hall
won the 400 m as expected in 46.01. Kenyan Leken Kishoyian was second
46.58 ahead of Patryk Dobek of Poland 46.67. Shaunae Miller of Bahamas
won after World Juniors last year in Moncton also this time in 51.84
what is new junior national record. Second Christian Brennan of Canada
52.12 and third Jamaican Olivia James 52.14. The other Jamaican favorite
Chris-Ann Gordon was 7th (53.31). Africans dominated in the 2000 m
steeple with Conselus Kipruto 5:28.65, Gilbert Kirui 5:30.49 and
Zacharia Kiprotich of Uganda 5:37.98. New meet record for Hungarian
favorite Bence Pasztor in hammer 82.60 ahead of Ozkan Baltaci of Turkey
78.63 and Ukrainian Serhiy Reheda 74.06. South African Andries van der
Merve won the 110 m hurdles in 13.41 ahead of Joshua Hawkins of New
Zealand 13.44 and French runner Wilhelm Belocian 13,51. Interestingly no
US runner in the finals.
FAST 3000 M
RHEDE
(GER, Jul 8): South African wins at Rhede International meet as Lehann
Fourie clocked 13.62 (+0.5) at 110 m hurdles and Ofentse Mogawane 45.65
in the 400 m. Fast 3000 m won by Hamish Carson of New Zealand with huge
PB 7:49.24. Second Elroy Gelant of South Africa 7:49.92 and third German
Arne Gabius 7:50.18. Jamaican Ryan Shields posted 10.28 (+0.7) in the
100 m and US Deun White 20.74 (+0.7) in the 200 m. Robert Martey of
Ghana was the best in the long jump 792 (+0.2). In the women long jump
Karin Melis Mey now representing Turkey leaped to 660 (+0.6) and South
American record holder Jennifer Dahlgren got 69.62 in hammer.
Interesting to note that 16 years old Ahmad Mohamed Ashraf of Qatar
achieved 82.61 with 5 kg hammer. He was not competing in Lille at World
Youth Championships where with this mark he would be on the podium. His
Asian Youth record is even better 83.18 in April in Doha.

(IRL, Jul 8): At Morton Mile Jordan McNamara of USA won with 3:56.82
ahead of Brandon Bethke 3:57.34. World junior and youth medalist Ciara
Mageean clocked 2:03.21 at the 800 m and visually impaired sprinter
Jason Smyth 10.39 and 20.95 double.
ZHUKOVSKIY
(RUS, Jul 6): At Moscow Region Championships Yuriy Borzakovskiy clocked
46.86 in the 400 m. Yekaterina Kupina was the best in the 800 m
(2:01.44) and Tatyana Lysenko won the hammer (73.03). Mariya Bespalova
as second improved to 71.93 and third Gulfiya Khanafeyeva for first time
achieved 70+ after returning from doping ban 71.11.
GRODNO (BLR,
Jul 8): During last day of Belarus Championships Natalya Vyatkina
achieved 14.17 in the triple jump, Natalya Koreyvo won after 1500 m also
the 800 m (2:02.99) and Anna Nosenko clocked 15:46.08 to win the 5000
m.
MONCTON (CAN,
Jul 8): Phylicia George of Canada clocked 13.09 (-1.0) at 100 m hurdles
during Hub City Classic on the track of last year World Junior
Championships. Mark Dillon and US Jamie Nieto cleared 220 in the high
jump.
NEUSTADT (GER,
Jul 8): In mixed race fast 2:01.85 for Corinna Harrer at the 800 m,
2006 European marathon champion Ulrike Maisch clocked 9:31.38 in the
3000 m.

the Republic of Korea and France. ARD and ZDF were granted the broadcast
rights in Germany for the XXII Olympic Winter Games (2014) in Sochi,
Russia, and the Games of the XXXI Olympiad (2016) in Rio De Janeiro,

platforms, including free-to-air television, subscription television,

the exclusive broadcast rights in the Republic of Korea and the

YORK (USA): Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason will trade in his
cleats and a spot behind the microphone of his popular morning talk show
for a pair of running shoes as he and family members join members of
Team Boomer and approximately 5000 runners as part of Boomer’s Cystic
Fibrosis Run to Breathe, a 10K in Central Park on Saturday, July 9. The
race benefits the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which heightens awareness,
education, and the quality of life for those affected by cystic
fibrosis, while providing financial support to research aimed at finding
a cure.

European junior shot put champion 2009 Alyona Dubitskaya (nee Hryshko)
became a mother on July 7. She and her husband, Oleg Dubitskiy who was
bronze medal winner in hammer at world junior championships 2008
celebrated birth of a daughter.
