Sponsor of 2010 Commonwealth Triathlon Series
Partnership further
underlines brand’s commitment to sport and local
triathlete community
LEXINGTON, MA
(June 17, 2010) – Saucony, Inc, a leading global supplier of performance athletic
footwear and apparel, today announced that it has signed on as
the official footwear and apparel sponsor of the 2010 Commonwealth Triathlon Series, the leading sprint distance series in New England.
Produced by Streamline Events, LLC, the series, in its second year, is composed
of the Cohasset Triathlon (June 27th), the Nantucket Triathlon (July 10th),
the Marlborough Triathlon (August 1st), and the Scituate Duathlon
(October 17th).
“Our partnership with the Commonwealth Series
underlines our commitment to not only the sport of triathlon but our local
triathlete community in particular,” said Carrie Bartlett, manager of
Saucony’s triathlon program. “The
combined experience that Olympian, Saucony athlete and series cofounder Jarrod
Shoemaker, elite coach Tim Crowley and race director Bill Burnett bring to
these races will no doubt deliver the best sprint distance series in the
country,” added Bartlett.
“With Saucony’s rich and enduring history in
the sport of triathlon, we are honored to have this premier brand as our
partner,” said Bill Burnett, managing director of Streamline Events.
“We look forward to a long lasting relationship with Saucony.”
The Cohasset Triathlon, the first race in the series, is partnering for
the fourth consecutive year with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Over
the last three years, race participants’ individual fundraising efforts
have raised nearly $500,000 for JDRF, making the race the largest volunteer
driven event for the nonprofit in the U.S.
According
to USA Triathlon,
participation in triathlon in the U.S.
is at an all-time high, following unprecedented growth over the past 10 years.
The biggest growth continues to be in the shorter sprint races, making the
sport more accessible to first-timers as well as those with fewer hours to
train. A 2009 study initiated by USA Triathlon revealed that more than three
quarters of respondents participate in the sprint distance (approximately
500-meter swim, 12-mile bike, 5k-run).
