WORLD LEAD FOR MULLER
WIESBADEN (GER, May 8): Nadine
Muller improved in discus to world leading 67.78 m. At 15th Throwers
Cup she improved her best by 3.48
m. Second Chinese Song Aimin got 62.40. World champion
Robert Harting won men discus with 66.62 ahead of Markus Munch (64.46). Third
Martin Wierig achieved solid 63.48. Junior discus winner Michael Salzer
improved to 65.42 with 1.75 implement and qualified for Moncton.
GARCIA AND SCHIPPERS LEADING
DESENZANO DEL GARDA (ITA, May
8): The first day of the 23rd edition of the Multistars trofeo Zerneri Acciai
(IAAF World Combined Events Challenge)
was closed off by Cuban Yordani Garcia taking the lead in the men’s
competition with a total of 4113 points, well ahead of US Jake Arnold
(4006) and compatriot Leonel Suarez (4004). Garcia managed 10.95 in the 100m, 673 in the long jump, 14.77 in the shot put,
jumped 207 high and ran a 49.31 400m lap. Jake Arnold had taken the lead
with a good 15.67 shot put but could not manage to hold the lead with
a 195 high jump and 50.02 400m. Suarez jumped to 3rd overall position
after jumping 210 in
the high jump. In the women’s heptathlon 17 year old Dutch junior athlete Dafne
Schippers surprisingly took the lead on the first day. Schippers started off
the day with a 14.12 performance in the hurdles, she jumped 172 high, got 12.42 in the shot put and
rounded off the day with a superb 23.70 in the 200m. Schippers leads the ranking
with a total of 3539 points, 14 points ahead of Berlin 6th placer Ukraine’s
Hanna Melnychenko (3525) and 34 points ahead of Russian Marina Goncharova
(3495). Italian Francesca Doveri (3493)
and Ghanaian Margaret Simpson (3441) complete the top 5 of the first day.
VESELY WORLD LEAD 86.45
OLOMOUC (CZE, May 8): Beijing
olympic finalist Vitezslav Vesely shocked the javelin world with 86.45 world
lead. Coached by Jan Zelezny he achieved in the series two more marks better
than his previous best (83.12 and 81.86). Berlin finalist Petr Frydrych
achieved as second also high quality 84.77 and third Jakub Vadlejch (last year
a junior) again improved to 84.47. Excellent depth of Czech javelin
throwing. Vesely and Frydrych are coach by Zelezny and Vadlejch by Rudolf
Cerny, who is the coach of Barbora Spotakova. Vesely´s mark is second best ever
in Czech Republic behind his legendary coach. In women javelin in rain Jarmila
Klimesova qualified to Barcelona with 60.74 effort. Junior Pavel Maslak
sprinted to 21.09 in
the 200 m
(+1.6) and qualified for Moncton.

win in the Austrian road mile as Erastus Chirchir clocked 4:07.31 ahead of
Czech 800 m
world indoor finalist Jakub Holusa (4:07.83).

Kovago confirmed excellent early season shape with 64.67 discus win over Roland
Varga of Croatia (62.70).

During first day of Spanish University Championships Mercedes Chilla got 60.02 in women javelin.
CORNELLA (ESP, May 8): Manuel
Olmedo won the 17th edition of road mile here in 4:21 ahead of Arturo Casado
(4:22) and Sergio Sanchez (4:23). In women race Natalia Rodriguez won in 4:57
beating Rosa Morato (4:58).
MOMBASA (KEN, May 8): Grace
Kidake once again stole the show at a New KCC/Athletics Kenya fifth
weekend athletics meeting as she won easily the 100 m in 12.8, the 200 m in 25.8, 80 0m in 2:21.0, 400m hurdles in 1:08.2
and 400m in 56.0 without breaking a sweat. David Mutinda won the 800 m (1:49.7).
NOVE MESTO NAD VAHOM (SVK, May
8): Excellent improvement for Renata Medgyesova in long jump with windy 679
(+2.5) and legal 667 (+1.2) which qualified her for European Championships in
Barcelona. She is now number three in Slovak All-time list. As former high
jumper (medalist at World Youth
Championships 1999) she returned after baby break for long jump.
KAVARNA (BUL, May 8): Kenyan
living in Finland Obed Kipkirui won the second Kavarna Marathon in Bulgaria
with 2:16:36. That is new course record. Moroccan Hassane Ahouchar was second
in 2:16:54 and third his team-mate Hamou Moudouji in 2:19:28. Balkan champion
was Turkish Ercan Muslu in personal best 2:24:12 as sixth.
WIEN (AUT, May 8): Austrian 10 000 m champions are
Martin Proll (29:26.62) and Andrea Mayr (34:15.81).
KINGSTON (JAM, May 8): Raheem
Chambers raced to an impressive 11.98 seconds win in the Class One boys 100m
final on Saturday’s final at Jamaican
Primary School Championships at the National Stadium.
BERLIN (GER, May 8): German top
runner Sabrina Mockenhaupt won Berlin women run at 10 km with 33:24.

BARCELONA (ESP): Spanish long
distance athlete Carles Castillejo is planning to compete in the 10 000m at
this summer’s European Championships. Castillejo has had very good winter
training and already qualified for both the 5000 m and 10 000 m. He will open up
the season in May with a 1500m or 3000 m (Ostrava with Lagat and Ebuya) and will
later on run a 5000 m
in Huelva. Castillejo plans to move up to the marathon at the end of the year
with the aim of preparing for the 2012 Olympic marathon in London.
