Micah Kogo ran a sizzling 27:29 for 10k on the roads in Laredo, Spain on Saturday, March 20. Kogo is the Olympic bronze medalist over 10,000 meters from Beijing and is the current world record holder for 10k on the roads at 27:01, set on a circuit course, in the Netherlands, in April 2009! ARLES (FRA, Mar 20): On the first day of the 10th European Cup Winter Throwing in Arles fresh Doha silver winner Andrey Mikhnevich from Belarus won the shot put with a 21.04 what is new world outdoor lead. Serbian Asmir Kolasinac got second with 20.15m and Hungarian Lajos Kurthy achieved the third place with 20.07. German 2007 world champion Betty Heidler won the women’s hammer with a 72.48m throw while Silvia Salis from Italy got second with 69.43m and former world record holder Tatyana Lysenko of Russia was third with 69.11m. Another German victory in the women’s discus throw with Nadine Muller’s 64.30m performance (life time best), Poland´s Zaneta Glanc narrowly got second with 59.95m over Romanian veteran Nicoleta Grasu, 59.92m. Russian favorite Ilya Korotkov won the javelin with good 83.28. Ukrainian Oleksandr Pyatnytsa was second (79.38) over Poland´s Pawel Rakoczy (78.13). In the under 23 competitions Belgian Thomas Smet won the javelin with 76.67m, Zalina Marghieva of Moldova took home the under 23 hammer throw in 70.77m while Ukrainian Ivan Hryshyn won the under 23 discus throw with very good quality 63.09m. Belarus got the women’s under 23 shot put with Aliona Hryshko’s 17.66m, Dutch Melissa Boekelman was second in 17.56m.

HAVANA (CUB, Mar 19): World and olympic discus medalist Yareli Barrios achieved the best mark of first day of Copa Cuba-Barrientos Memorial with 65.60. Second Yanisley Collado achieved also good 63.20 m. Unfortunately again hand-timing was used. Michael Herrera won the 100 m in 10.1, women´s 100 m winner Nelkis Casabona posted 11.2. Impressive also 13.2 at 110 m hurdles by Ignacio Morales. Doha medalist William Collazo achieved 46.0 to win the 400 m. Dailis Caballero equaled her pole vault best with winning 430. Men discus winner Jorge Fernandez achieved 62.93 m. Former hammer world champion Yipsi Moreno is due to make her comeback during the weekend.
FIRST TITLES FOR KALMER AND HARMSE
DURBAN (RSA, Mar 20): First titles at South African National Championships went to fresh indoor record holder Rene Kalmer who won the 5000 m in 15:51.31. Hammer thrower Chris Harmse got his 15th national hammer title with 73.54. Samson Ngoepe (hamstring injury) and world champion Mbulaeni Mulaudzi were two withdrawals from 800 m heats.
KOGO MISSED WR BY 26 SECONDS
LAREDO (ESP, Mar 20): Kenyan Olympic 10 000 m bronze winner Micah Kogo missed his own road 10 km world record while winning the race in Laredo, Spain. His final time of 27:27 was 26 seconds behind his top mark 27:01 from last year.

ADDIS ABABA (ETH): Elshadai Negash confirmed for Universal Sports the Ethiopian team for World CC Championships in Poland next weekend. WACO: The Baylor/Dr Pepper Invitational scheduled for Saturday in Waco, Texas has been canceled due to inclement weather expected to hit the Waco area, university officials announced. Cold temperatures and rain are forecast to blanket Waco all day. The cancellation moves the start of Baylor‘s outdoor season to next Saturday, March 27, for the Victor Lopez Bayou Classic hosted by Rice University in Houston, Texas.
TAMPA: Olympic sprint medalist Walter Dix posted 46.88 life-time best at 400 m during the USF Bulls Invitational. Romanian world finalist Angela Morosanu achieved 57.34 at 400 m hurdles.
FORT WORTH: Windy fast 100 m by Canadian Jarred Connaughton 10.20 (+4.7) and US Lashauntea Moore 11.02 (+4.4).

NYERI (KEN, Mar 19): As The Nation writes, a dark cloud hung over the 2nd New KCC/AK track and field weekend meeting at Ruring’u Stadium after an athlete collapsed and later died. Peter Isaboke Mogere of Nanyuki Air Base died moments after he finished the 5000 m heat. Confirming the incident on Saturday, Athletics Kenya secretary-general David Okeyo said the entire athletics body was saddened by the “unfortunate event†of Friday evening. Mogere was an elder brother of Osaka 2007 World Championships finalist in 10,000m, Philes Ongori. He hails from Chironge Sub-location, Kiamoka Location of Kisii District. 10,000m women winner Naomi Chepngetich clocked 33:50.06.
KERZERS (SUI, Mar 20): Kenyan Pius Kirop won the 15 km road race in Switzerland with 43:48. At 32nd Kerzers Run (part of Post Cup series) also 2-4 positions for Kenyans Stanley Salil (44:29), Julius Arile (44:30) and Hosea Tuei (47:18). Best non-African was Swiss Lukas Stahli as 6th (47:51). Former world and european marathon medalist Viktor Rothlin was on his come-back 10th in 48:37. It was his first race since July 2009. Kenyans dominated also the women category with Tabitha Gichia (51:12), Leah Malot (52:10) and Joan Aiyabei (52:22). Swiss Sabine Fischer as best European ended fourth (53:15).
RESITA (ROU, Mar 20): Romanian 20 km walk champions were crowned Gheorghe Neacsu (1:24:47) and Ana Maria Greceanu (1:37:25).
TEMELIN (CZE, Mar 20): Jan Kreisinger won the main 10 km race at Czech CC Championships with 31:23. Second Milan Kocourek achieved 31:46 and third multiple champion Robert Stefko (32:02). U23 runner Martina Barinova was the best woman at 6.3 km in 22:53. In the milers race at 3.7 Tomas Bednar clocked 11:14 to win over steeple specialist Petr Mikulenka (11:17).
DUDINCE (SVK, Mar 20): Veteran runner Miroslav Vanko (37) won again as last year both races at Slovak CC Championships in the well-known walking venue. At 4.5 km (his 8th title) in 11:55 and 9 km in 24:23. In women´s 4.5 km Katarina Beresova beat in 13:50 the title defender Janka Zatlukalova (13:57).
OLOMOUC (CZE, Mar 20): Best Czech female walker Zuzana Schindlerova achieved 44:54 to win the 44th annual road walking event at 10 km.
CEJKOVICE (CZE, Mar 19): At traditional special indoor high jump meeting in Moravia home number one Jaroslav Baba cleared 223 to win over Russian Ivan Ilyichev (220) and Grzegorz Sposob of Poland (220). Fourth place for Dutch Martijn Nuijens who cleared 216. In women category also home win for Oldriska Maresova with 188.
VALASKE MEZIRICI (CZE, Mar 20): In second special HJ meet of the weekend even better mark for Jaroslav Baba with 225 over Martijn Nujiens of Netherlands (218). Also Oldriska Maresova was a double winner with 184 in women category.
