TAINAN (TPE, Jan 31): Tainan Ancient Capital Marathon winners were Kenyans Elijah Muturi in 2:16:39 and Caroline Chemutai in 2:49:06.
NAGPUR (IND, Jan 31): Tanzanian runners Patrick Nyangelo and Oswald Revellian returned personal best timings at Nagpur International Marathon. Nyangelo clocked 2:13:06 while Revellian, a regular participant at Pune marathon, was just a second behind the winner (2:13:07). Kenya’s Benson Kipkosgei, fifth at Pune last year, finished third here with yet another PB of 2:13:54. India’s Kavita Raut put a determined effort in the women’s half-marathon. She was running neck-to-neck with the runners from Africa until 10 km when Helen Musyoka break away from the bunch and start running upfront with a lead of 100m. Musyoka is familiar on the Indian roads and credited with a career best 70:50 at Pune, last year. However she managed to clock only 71:27 but remained satisfied with setting a new course record for Nagpur.
MARRAKECH (MAR, Jan 31): Ethiopian wins at 21st Marrakech Marathon. Yared Dagnaw clocked 2:10:20 to win the men race and Gelaw Tsega 2:32:06 in the women. Second Georgina Rono of Kenya posted 2:34:52. In men´s race second Gebrselassie Tsegay posted 2:10:32 and third Ahmed Baday of Morocco 2:10:58. Best Kenyan David Toniok clocked 2:11.26 as fourth. Ethiopian Bekele Azmiro won the half-marathon in fast 1:00:57. Kenyan Mariam Wangari won the women´s half marathon in 1:12:19 ahead of home Asmae Leghzaoui 1:12:45.
SAN VITTORE OLONA (ITA): At the seventh leg of the IAAF cross country permit meetings, the Cinque Mulini, Ethiopian Humegaw Mesfin took his second major Cross Country win in 2010 writes iaaf.org. The Ethiopian, who‘s 21st birthday was today, showed he is a force to reckon with at the upcoming world championships. From the start the trio of Mesfin, Abera Chane and Kenyan Richard Mateelong broke away but it was Mesfin who broke away to secure a 14 seconds win. Mesfin clocked 28:03 ahead of Matelong 28:17 and Chane 28:20. Best European Vasil Matviychuk of Ukraine was fourth (29:24). In the women‘s race Olympic 1500 m champion Nancy Langat broke away at the bell from Tizita Bogale and built her gap to five seconds over the Ethiopian to come home in 19:25 beating Bogale by five seconds (19:30). Portugal Ana Dulce Felix prevailed over Briton Stephanie Twell by 15 seconds in the fight for third place in 19:42 (19:57 for Twell).
ELDORET (KEN, Jan 31): Joel Kimurer of Kenya police finally managed to win a local title when he ran away with the senior men‘s crown at the 19th edition of the Discovery Kenya Cross Country championship. The 22-year-old ran a tactical race to avoid the mistakes that caused him to only manage a fifth place during the Police cross country championships held a week ago in Nairobi and won in 36:14. Second Sammy Kitwara, 10th at last year’s World Half Marathon Championship in Birmingham, clocked 36:18.6, while Wilson Kipsang was third in 36:23.5. The event held at the usual Eldoret Sports Club ground under clear skies and windy conditions was also attended by top runners, among them 2004 Olympic Marathon champion Stefano Baldini of Italy, former Marathon record holder Paul Tergat, Olympic Champions Samuel Wanjiru and Pamela Jelimo, Olympic silver medallist Janeth Jepkosgei, former Boston Marathon champions Robert Cheruiyot and Moses Tanui who is also the founder of the Discovery race. The first man to run 10,000m in under 27 minutes, Yobes Ondieki, was also present. The senior women‘s race was won by Gladys Chemweno who apart from gunning for a share of the jackpot money in the national Cross Country championship is also widely expected to make the national team to the World Cross Country championships set for Bydgoszcz, Poland next month. She clocked 27:17.0 to beat a seasoned runner Pamela Lisoreng, 27:23.1, and Gladys Kemboi 27:32.8 who finished in that order for position two and three.
VALLADOLID (ESP, Jan 31): Carles Castillejo won the 10 km CC race here with 28:44. In the 22nd edition of the race Kenyan Hosea Macharinyang was second (28:45) ahead of Ayad Lamdassem (29:03) and top runner Sergio Sanchez (29:23). Diana Martin won the 6.75 km women race in 22:52 ahead of Moroccan Btissam Lakhouad (22:55).
SAN SEBASTIAN (ESP, Jan 31): Kenyan Mike Kigen won the Donostia CC race in San Sebastian. At 10 km he clocked 31:29 ahead of Eritreans Samuel Tsegay (32:20) and Emanuel Mesel (32:52). Best Spanish Alberto Garcia was fourth (33:07). In women´s 5.3 km Hungarian Aniko Kalovics won with 19.45 ahead of Ukrainian Tetyana Holovchenko 19.51 and best home runner Rosa Morato 20:06.

SEVEN WORLD LEADS
KARLSRUHE (GER): At the BW-Bank meeting in Karlsruhe seven world leading marks were registered in front of 4500 capacity crowd. Ariane Friedrich delighted the German crowd with a superb 2 meters high jump while in the 3000m women Sylvia Kibet ran a world leading and broke the meeting record with a time of 8:41.24. Laverne Jones Ferette broke her national record with a 7.09 run in the qualifying rounds. In the finals she managed a 7.11 with Miryam Soumare of France second, 7.27 and Ebony Floyd third in 7.30. In the hurdles Lolo Jones gave a clear sign to Jessica Ennis, who had beaten her in Glasgow, with a strong world leading 7.90. Yvette Lewis was second with a PB of 7.99. The 1500m produced another world leading as Gelete Burka crossed the finish line first in 4:03.92, French Felix Fanjanteino came in second in 4:14.64. On the men‘s side hurdling legend Allen Johnson managed a time of 7.58, which gave him second place behind Petr Svoboda who ran a new Czech national record of 7.50, Daniel Kiss ran a new Hungarian record in the qualifying round with a time of 7.57. The 60m sprint was won by Jamaican Lerone Clarke in 6.64, with Nigerian Egwero Ogho-Oghene second but with the same time. German Christian Blum was third in 6.65. Russian 2004 Olympic winner Yuriy Borzakovskiy performed another world leading in the 800m. His time of 1:45.94 secured him the win while another Czech national record was achieved by Jakub Holusa in 1:46.09. Two more world leading performances as the 1500m was won in 3:37.01 by Kenyan Gideon Gathimba and Qatari Saif Saeed Shaheen succeeded in crossing the finish line first in 7:43.44 at 3000 m. In the pole vault four men in jump-off at 561 Frenchman Romain Mesnil who took the win. Another French victory was secured by Salim Sdiri who won the long jump in 799.

GENT (BEL, Jan 31): At the Flemish championships two world qualifying marks and a national record were posted. Kevin Rans broke his own Belgian national record in the pole vault with a jump over 571, his achievement secured his place at this year‘s world indoor championships. European champion Eline Berings easily reached the qualifying mark in the hurdles with a time of 8.07. Berings, who just came back from a training camp in South Africa also won the 60m in a new PB of 7.39.
ZAPORIZHYA (UKR, Jan 31): During second day of Ukrainian Cup meet Oleksiy Kasyanov improved national heptathlon record to 6254 points (8.18 – 470 – 2:42.88). Anton Sayevich bettered his high jump best to 228.
APELDOORN (NE, Jan 31): France won the combined events match against Czech Republic, Spain, Great Britain and Netherlands with 12 835 points in pentathlon and 17 126 in heptathlon. Individual winner Antoinette Nana Djimou scored 4507 in pentathlon over Czech Denisa Rosolova (4370). In heptathlon Dutch Elco Sintnicolaas scored 5882 points.
MOSCOW (RUS, Jan 31): Hurdler Yevgeniy Borisov posted 6.4 60 m hand time during Moscow Region Championships. Yekaterina Filatova achieved hand timed 7.0 at 60 m and Mariya Koroteyeva 8.1 at 60 m hurdles. Shot putter Anna Omarova got 17.62 m.
LEE VALLEY (GBR, Jan 31): Outstanding return to form for relay 2004 olympic winner Mark Lewis-Francis. Now free of long standing achilles injury he clocked 6.59 for 60 m, his fastest since 2004. Next Saturday he will race against Dwain Chambers in Birmingham. Also European junior champion Lawrence Clarke improved his best for 60 m Hurdles to 7.72 and over 60 m Bernice Wilson sets PB of 7.31 in narrow win over Belgium‘s Fatmata Bangura (7.32).
POMBAL (POR, Jan 31): During second day of Portugal Clubs Championships Naide Gomes leaped to 632 in long jump, but she is not targeting major events indoors. Vera Santos clocked at 5000 m walk world leading 12:52.86.
FRANKFURT (GER, Jan 31): German combined events indoor champions are Christian Hallmann with 5859 in heptathlon and Claudia Rath with 4274 in pentathlon.
BRATISLAVA (SVK, Jan 31): At Elan Meeting Jolanda Batagelj (formerly Ceplak) lost the 800 m in 2:07.82 to Briton Vicky Griffiths (2:07.55). Nigerian Oneybor Ngwogu won the 60 m in 6.70. Tania Mitic of Serbia clocked 7.38 to win the 60 m and Serdar Tamac of Turkey achieved 47.78 at 400 m. Slovak Renata Medgyesova leaped to 640 in long jump and Czech Martina Sestakova to 13.71 in triple jump.
MALMO (SWE, Jan 31): Denmarks´s record holder Morten Jensen leaped to solid 796 in long jump.
BOSTON (USA, Jan 30): Jamaican Edino Steele clocked 21.07 at 200 m and Francena McCorory 37.18 at 300 m here.
ALLSTON (USA, Jan 30): Erin Donohue clocked 2:03.77 at 800 m here.
GAINESVILLE (USA, Jan 31): At Carnes Invitiational Jamaican Sheri-Ann Brooks posted 6.74 at 55 m, Chris Lawson 6.25 at men´s 55 m and John Yarbrough 7.18 at 55 m hurdles.
PRAHA (CZE, Jan 31): Javelin world record holder Barbora Spotakova competed at Prague City Indoor championships in shot put and was second with 14.01 m.
BERLIN (GER, Jan 30): Discus world champion Robert Harting registered very solid 64.94 m taking into account the winter time.

KINGSTON (JAM): Former 100 m world record holder Asafa Powell was at the end of the day not running on Saturday in Kingston at 400 m. “The meet was running hours behind schedule and the coach Francis decided not to run most of the athletes,†his agent Paul Doyle explains.
