FRANCIS WINS 100 m IN 10.23
SOFIA (BUL, June 9): The 43rd World Military Athletics Championships (35 countries) started with fast 100 m win for Asian record holder Samuel Francis of Qatar with 10.23. Italian favorite Fabio Cerutti was disqualified after false start as he clocked 10.23 (+2.1) in his heat as winner. Austrian Ryan Moseley improved in his heat as winner to 10.21 (+1.5) ahead of Italian Emmanuele Di Gregorio (10.24) and Morrocan Aziz Ouhadi improve the national record to 10.25. High quality home wins before 3000 spectators for Momchil Karailiev in triple jump (17.22, +0.6) and Vanya Stambolova with 55.30 at 400 m hurdles. Venelina Veneva won the high jump (188). Poland´s olympic medalist Piotr Malachowski won the discus (64.94) and European champion Bram Som from Netherlands the 800 m (1:46.98). French Elodie Guegan was the best woman at 800 m in 2:02.38. Solid hammer depth, winner Pavel Krivitskiy of Belarus achieved 78.98 ahead of Italians Marco Lingua (78.80) and Nicola Vizzoni (78.06) who beat by 2 cm German Markus Esser for bronze (78.04).
KUCHERENKO 685 IN LONG JUMP
GOTEBORG (SWE, June 9): Swedish series Folksam Grand Prix started in Goteborg. Best Swedish high jumpers had different fortunes. Emma Green won with 191 (ahead of Marina Aitova of Kazkhstan with the same height), but Linus Thornblad was only third (224) as Russian Aleksandr Shustov cleared 228 and Italian Alessandro Talotti 224. Russian European indoor medalist from Torino Olga Kucherenko achieved internationally best result as she improved in long jump to 685 (+0.6). Home star Carolina Kluft was second (653, +1.0). European indoor champion Johan Wissman posted 46.24 win at 400 m, Samson Ngoepe of South Africa won the 800 m (1:46.47) and US Fred Townsend the 110 m hurdles (13.62, +0.3),. Briton Rhys Williams returned with 50.17 400 m hurdles win and Zaneta Glanc of Poland was best in discus (60.76). Kenyan Jonas Cheruiyot dominated the 5000 m (13:21.77) with national steeple record holder Mustafa Mohamed beeing 7th (13:43.72).

BRUSSELS (BEL): Olympic winner and European champion in high jump Belgian Tia Hellebaut became a happy mother. Her daughter Lotte was born (3.17 kg) on Tuesday at 11.30. Father is her coach Wim Vandeven.
NO STREET POLE VAULT IN PARIS
PARIS (FRA): Areva meet director Laurent Boquillet abandoned the idea of organising a street pole vault events due to the lack of availability of the major sites on the day after July 14, French national day. Boquillet also made an offer to Tyson Gay, but didn‘t get an answer from his agent yet, L‘Equipe informs. Boquillet also confirmed confirmed that the men‘s triple jump competition promises to be one of the highlights of the evening on 17th July, with a line-up that should include three Olympic medallists in the Beijing Games: Portuguese athlete Nelson Evora, English jumper Phillips Idowu and Bahamian athlete Leevan Sands. Laurent Boquillet is working on getting the three best Cuban jumpers of the moment to attend, namely Yoandris Betanzos (17.65 m this season), David Girat (17.62 m), and Alexis Copello (17.65 m). Added to this of course, will be four representatives from the ambitious French school: Teddy Tamgho, Benjamin Compaoré, Julien Kapek and Karl Taillepierre.
MAJEWSKI vs. HOFFA IN POLAND
BYDGOSZCZ (POL): Excellent fields are ready for 9th Enea Cup, the European Athletics Premium meeting held in Bydgoszcz, Poland on Wednesday. Top Polish athletes competing should bring enough spectators to the site of last years World junior championships on blue track. Shot Put olympic winner Tomasz Majewski will face current world number one Reese Hoffa. Silver winner Piotr Malachowski is going to compete with olympic winner Gerd Kanter of Estonia. Another highlight will be men´s 400 m hurdles where world medalist Marek Plawgo will compete against returning former world champion and olympic winner Felix Sanchez, South African LJ Van Zyl, Jamaican Danny McFarlane and mainly British surprise from Prague and European leader David Greene. Olympic winner Primoz Kozmus of Slovenia is the star of hammer, but he will have it tough against so far unbeaten this year Hungarian Krisztian Pars. Also to note in men events the 110 m hurdles duel of improved Dexter Faulk (13.21 in Prague on Monday) and olympic medalist David Payne of USA. Olympic steeple bronze winner Richard Mateelong of Kenya is the star of his event and former 100 m world champion Kim Collins the favorite in short dash. In pole vault German strong group (Mohr, Ecker, Straub, Lobinger) is going to rule the event. Double world champion Michelle Perry after Eugene win on Sunday came to Europe for a race for first time since early July 2008. Olympic winner 2004 Yelena Slesarenko will open her 2009 season here. Another duel Stephanie Durst vs. Laverne Jones is expected in women sprints. Another duel at 400 m hurdles of home Anna Jesien against Ukrainian European leader Anastasiya Rabchenyuk. In women steeple world junior record holder Ruth Bisibori is the top name with Russian Yulia Zarudneva who improved recently to 9:34.47. In women triple jump European indoor champion Anastasiya Taranova-Potapova will face her country-mate Anna Pyatykh as top two names.
VLASIC AND ROBLES, THE STARS IN GREECE
THESSALONIKI (GRE): The second EA Premium Meeting of Wednesday will be Thessaloniki in Greece. Also here world stars are competing and it confirms that top European circuit is healthy in quality. High jump world leader and world champion Blanka Vlasic after two early meetings had some good training and is ready to attack again important heights. Biggest homer star Hrysopyi Devetzi will face in triple jump Sudan´s Yamile Aldama and Slovak European indoor medalist Dana Veldakova. The biggest male star is Cuban olympic winner and world record holder Dayron Robles who is going to compete his season here. His main rival should be US Aries Merritt who this year clocked 13.28 already. Greatest depth is men´s high jump. European indoor champion Ivan Ukhov is the main favorite after his 234 competitions so far this year. He will return to Greece where he in winter achieved his first 240. In the field world champion 2005 Yuri Krymarenko, olympic 2004 medalist Jaroslav Baba, world medalist Kyriakos Ioannou and veteran Dragutin Topic. Another Greek star Louis Tsatoumas, the national record holder, is the top name in long jump. Solid field is assembled in men´s 400 m with good Europeans David Gillick and Tim Benjamin against African record holder Gary Kikaya. Bahraini Ali Bilal Mansour is the top name in men´s 1500 m, Jamaican world medalist Deloreen Ennis-London in 100 m hurdles, Ukrainian world indoor medalist Tetyana Petlyuk at 800 m. In men´s 100 m Briton Tyrone Edgar is competing against fastest Brazilian Jose Carlos Moreira and Prague winner Steve Mullings of Jamaica.

BERLIN (GER): Two months prior to the World championships in Berlin the situation of discus World champion Franka Dietzsch from Germany becomes more and more difficult. „We cancelled the next two meetings. Franka is not fit and has bad lab results“, said her coach Dieter Kollark. The 41-year-old athlete from Neubrandenburg had already missed the 2008 Olympic Games due to health problems. Now she will stop her medication for her immune illness. „Maybe the reason is that she can only train in the morning as she is not very powerful and in the afternoon. Anyway, it has got nothing to do with age because during the winter she was quite well in shape“, stated Kollark.
DARMSTADT (GER): The German Athletics Federation (DLV) announced its team for the first European team championships. There will be 49 athletes in the team. „We want to continue in Leiria where we stopped in Torino“, said DLV sport director Juergen Mallow. Top names are high jump European indoor champion Ariane Friedrich, hammer world champion Betty Heidler and javelin olympic silver winner Christina Obergfoll, on the men side sprinter Stefan Schwab, high jumper Raul Spank and discus thrower Robert Harting. In other strong events Malte Mohr and Silke Spiegelburg will compete in pole vault, Bianca Kappler in long jump, Nadine Kleinert in shot put and Sabrina Mockenhaupt at 5000 m.
MOSCOW (RUS): On Friday Moscow Challenge meet will be held (was usually in second part of the season) again in form of duels. At the Yantar Stadium Olympic winners Gulnara Samitova-Galkina and Nancy Lagat will compete at 1500 m, olympic winner Melaine Walker of Jamaica against Irina Obedina at 400 m hurdles. On the men side in pole vault Renaud Lavillenie of France will face Russian Igor Pavlov and in high jump Italian Alessandro Talotti will compete against Andrey Tereshin. Olympic relay winners at 4×100 m will all run together the 200 m (Polyakova, Fedoriva, Gushchina, Chermoshanskaya). Around 150 school children are expected to participate in additional events.
HALIFAX (CAN): New meet the Aileen Meagher International is planned for July 1 in Nova Scotia part of Canada. Main event is men´s 100 m where confirmed entries are Jared Connaughton and Anson Henry.
BIRMINGHAM (GBR): UK Athletics has announced several more key national event coaching appointments in its long term drive to win medals at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Michael Khmel and Tony Lester will assume responsibility for the men’s and women’s sprints which will also involve preparing the respective relay teams. Steve Rippon becomes the national event coach in the pole vault, Aston Moore will focus on triple jump with John Herbert specialising in the the long jump. Malcolm Arnold who in a lengthy career guided Colin Jackson to his world 110 metres hurdles titles and world record becomes the supremo for that discipline. The six join Robert Weir who is already operating in the area of heavy throws and Ian Stewart who has been appointed to oversee endurance events.
TORONTO (CAN): When Usain Bolt hits the track at the University of Toronto’s Varsity Centre on Thursday he’ll be in good company. He is joined by more than 50 fellow Olympians and four Paralympians across 14 events. Olympic winner LaShawn Merritt runs the 400 m, world record holder Saif Saeed Shaheen at 5000 m, Bryan Clay and Trey Hardee in triathlon, US Chaunte Howard in high jump, world leader Andra Manson competes in high jump and local stars Perdita Felicien and Priscilla Lopes-Schliep will compete at 100 m hurdles.
MELBOURNE (AUS): The Herald Sun newspaper has reported that coach and manager Nic Bideau has sued his former client Craig Mottram over a London property deal. Reporter Fiona Hudson wrote that Mottram owes Bideau AUD 150,000 in connection with the sale of a London townhouse according to a writ filed in a county court. Bideau and Mottram split last October. Informs Race Results Weekly.
LAUSANNE (SUI): European Athletics, the Russian Athletics Federation and city of Moscow authorities have come to an agreement for the Russian capital to be the venue for the qualification tournament for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in August 2010. The dates on which the European Olympic Youth Trials will take place are May 21-23, 2010. The African Olympic Youth Trials will take place at the end of April and in May, with the North American and South American trials also in May. The Asia trials will take place in Singapore in May, while the Oceania trials will take place in either Sydney or Brisbane in March. Singapore 2010 is scheduled for 14-26 August.
