WORLD INDOORS NEWS
MONACO (MON): Star athletes announced for a pre-event press conference for World Indoors on Wednesday in Belgrade are Ryan Crouser, Keely Hodgkinson, Marcell Jacobs, Ivana Spanovic Vuleta, and Damian Warner.
BELGRADE (SRB): Serbian World Indoors team members Elzan Bibic, Anja Lukic, and Boško Kijanovic took part in a tree-planting ceremony to mark World Athletics Indoor Championships Belgrade 2022 joining the “Sports For Climate Action” project.
TOKYO (JPN): Japan plans to send 7 athletes for World Indoors. Two females are 1500 m record holder Nozomi Tanaka and hurdler Miho Suzuki. Five males include Shuhei Tada for 60 m and Shuhei Ishikawa with Shusei Nomoto for 60 m hurdles. Naoto Tobe will compete in the high jump and Yuki Hashioka in the long jump.
KINGSTON (JAM): Jamaican head coach Paul Francis is confident ahead of the World Indoors. Speaking of the team of 16, he told Jamaica Gleaner: “Sometimes you get distracted by statistics. Our statistics state, for example, that we have two of the top four women in the world at the 60m hurdles and we have the second-fastest woman in the world in the 800m in Natoya Goule. But on the track, we have to get ready and put the performances out. So basically, we, the coaching staff, the management, and the therapeutic staff, just want to create the best possible environment for them to be able to do this and make us and everybody proud. That is our aim. That is our mantra. That is our intention.”
HAVANA (CUB): Cuba will have in Belgrade six athletes. Liadagmis Povea and Leyanis Perez in women’s triple, Lazaro Martinez in men´s triple, and Olympic medalist Maykel Masso in men´s long jump. Roxana Gomez will run the 400 m and former World champion Yarisley Silva was invited for pole vault based on her World Ranking position.
BELGRADE (SRB): The home team of Serbia will have 15 athletes. Seven achieved the necessary standard and 8 were invited based on factors such as World Ranking but also the option for the home nation to have one athlete in every event. Standards were fulfilled by top star Ivana Vuleta in the long jump, shot putters Asmir Kolasinac and Armin Sinancevic, middle distance runner Elzan Bibic, 400 m runners Maja Ciric and Bosko Kijanovic, and hurdler Anja Lukic. Also invited Luka Trgovcevic for 60 m hurdles, Milana Tirnanic and Ivana Ilic for women 60 m, Jovana Ilic for triple jump, Aleksa Kijanovic for 60 m, young talent Angelina Topic for a high jump, Lazar Anic and Milica Gardasevic for the long jump.
LAGOS (NGR): Olympic bronze medalist in long jump Ese Brume will be the star of a small Nigerian team. Also, Ruth Osoro was scheduled for the long jump and triple jump. Men will have a 4×400 m team.
BRAGANCA PAULISTA (BRA): Lucas Carvalho (400m), Alexsandro Melo (triple jump), Fernando Ferreira (high jump) are among seven athletes who have been added to Brazil’s team for the World Indoors, taking the size of the squad to 20.
RIGA (LAT): The only Latvian athlete in Belgrade, will be female 400 m runner Gunte Vaicule.
