Three world leads in Kingston
KINGSTON (JAM, May 2): Three world leading marks were registered at 6th edition of Jamaica Invitational meet at Kingston´s national stadium. The event which is also Area Permit to score for IAAF World Athletics Tour had a budget of 900 000 USD. The highlight of the evening was the women´s 100 m race. Olympic silver winner Kerron Stewart clocked world leading 10.92 (+1.2) and clearly beat Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser who was third in 11.15. In-between US Marshevet Hooker in 11.14. Fast also Aileen Bailey (11.15, later won the 200 m in 22.96 +0.7) and Trinidad´s Kelly-Ann Baptiste (11.17). Another home success for world medalist Novlene Williams who clocked world best 2009 50.99 at 400 m and beat not totally healthy Sanya Richards (51.12) as hurdles olympic winner Melaine Walker was not competing. For Richards it is only fourth 400 m loss since 2007. Third world lead of the evening was a big surprise as Javier Culson of Puerto Rico improved his national record to 48.42 and beat a stellar field. World Champion Kerron Clement was only fifth in his hurdles opener (49.10) as he was beaten by Isa Phillips (48.79), Michael Tinsley (48.81) and old timer Danny McFarlane (at age 37 still 48.85). In terms of meeting records two were registered in technical events. In great shot put competition Christian Cantwell achieved 21.16 (MR) and returned the loss from Drake Relays to Dan Taylor who was third (21.05) as home record holder Dorian Scott was second with 21.09. Cory Martin as fourth still solid 20.43. In Long Jump Brittney Reese leaped to meet best 661 (+1.4) and clearly beat triple jump world champion Yargelis Savigne of Cuba (638,-0.7). Olympic winner Dawn Harper won the 100 m Hurdles in her season opener 12.78 (+0.6) ahead of Vonette Dixon (12.80) as Deloreen Ennis-London did not finish the race. Men hurdles were dominated by Antwon Hicks in good 13.27 (+0.7). In men sprints a nice double for US Olympian Darvis Patton in 10.02 (+0.1) and 20.48 (+1.0). In short sprint Daniel Bailey of Antigua (coached by Glen Mills) improved as second to excellent 10.02 ahead of home supertalent Yohan Blake who also improved his PB to 10.07 and Olympic medalist Richard Thompson of Trinidad was fourth (10.07). In the men 400 m Rennie Quow of Trinidad won in 45.41 and in women 400m hurdles home Nickiesha Wilson in 55.29 (Olympic medalist Tasha Danvers sixth in 57.15). Khadevis Robinson posted very solid 1:45.67 to win the 800 m, the same goes to home record holder Kenia Sinclair in women race (2:01.02). Olympic medalist from Beijing Ibrahin Camejo of Cuba won the long jump (792, 0.0). The flavour to the meet was added by having experienced US announcer Scott Davis.
RESULTS
BREMEN (GER, May 2): Sabrina Mockenhaupt won the German 10 000 m championships in excellent world leading time 31.27.56. That might be then a clear indication which event she will contest in Berlin in August. Male winner Filmon Gharmai got 29:40.06.
BEDFORD (GBR, May 2): Results from first day of British Students Champs. Canadian Seyi Smith won the 100m in 10.32 ahead of Leevan Yearwood in 10.37. Smith had recorded a big new PB of 10.23 (+2.0) in the semis. Brett Morse (20) improved to 59.52 to win the Discus.
TEL AVIV (ISR, May 2): New national U17 record in High Jump by Dmitriy Kroyter (16) who cleared 216 cm.
KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE (POL, May 2): Polish national 10 000 m champion is Marcin Chabowski with good PB 28:27.59 ahead of marathon runner Henryk Szost (28:31.90). Katarzyna Kowalska won the women race in PB 33:22.90.
SUSICE (CZE, May 2): Lenka Ledvinova is the first 70+ hammer thrower. In Susice at a throwing meet she achieved 70.51 m what is new national record and qualification for Berlin. Javelin thrower Petr Frydrych qualified to European U22 championships in Kaunas. The Jan Zelezny coached athlete registered 76.41 m.
RECHBERGHAUSEN (GER, May 1): At Pole Vault meet Malte Mohr cleared 550 ahead of Richard Spiegelburg and Tim Lobinger (both 540) in their season openers.
