On Friday night, at the Mt. SAC Relays Distance Carnival , Juan Luis Barrios of Mexico ran a fine 13:16.65. He did have company, with Anthony Famiglietti, aka FAM running 13:17.98 and Chris Solinsky running 13:18.41!
FAM is running the 10,000 meters next Friday, April 24, in Berkeley, CA. Word has it that the pacemakers will hit the 5,000 meters at the Cal-NYRR Distance Carnival at UC Berkeley in 13:35. Anthony Famiglietti, with 3:54 mile speed, 13:11 5,000 meter strength and a personal best at 10,000 meters of 27:36. FAM should run close to the American record (27:13.83)of Meb Keflizighi, set in 2001 at the Kim McDonald 10,000 meters at Stanford. (Meb will be running FLORA London Marathon on Sunday, April 26, 2009).

Borchin and Kaniskina winners
WUXI (CHN, Apr 18): Russian Olympic champions were the winners during first day of Chinese leg of IAAF Race Walking Challenge. Valeriy Borchin achieved fast 1:19:31 to win the 20 km men´s race and Olga Kaniskina 1:28:00 in the women competition. For Kaniskina this was her first ever appearance in IAAF Challenge meet outside of Russia and she remains unbeaten since 2007 in 7 competitions at 20 km in a row. Chinese walkers followed her as Jiang Jing clocked 1:28:56 and Liu Hong 1:30:01. The race was held in 27 degrees as All-Sport informs and for home walkers were qualification for World Championships in Berlin. In men´s race second Mexican Eder Sanchez with Australian double Olympic medalist Jarred Tallent fifth in 1:21:10 and Luke Adams just behind him in 1:21:15.
Kenyan domination in Beograd
BEOGRAD (SRB, Apr 18): Kenyan wins at 22nd Beograd Marathon. Former steeplechaser Victor Kigen debuted at the distance (belongs to Paul Tergat training group) with 2:13:28 and will cash 6000 Euro. Also other two podium places for his team-mates. Sylvester Chebii (2:14:25) and Julius Korir (2:14:28). Fourth Mustapha Ahmed of Qatar in 2:16:22 is also World Military Champion. Best European Poland´s Michal Kaczmarek as 9th (2:19:11) as last with sub 2:20 time. Sub 2:30 runner Anne Kosgei was the women winner in 2:34:51 ahead of Lithuanian Beijing Olympian Rasa Drazdauskaite who was second just 8 seconds behind (2:34:59) and also World Military Champion. Third Spanish Maria Ruiz already way back in 2:49:32 and just missed her PB 2:48:28. Best Serbian runner Olivera Jevtic won for the 6th time the half-marathon in 1:12:20 and missed her course record (1:11:41 last year). Male winner Kenyan Kiptoo Cheboi clocked 1:04:56 ahead of Slovenian Roman Kejzar (1:06:05).
US FRIDAY OVERVIEW: Ohuruogu sprinting wins
AUBURN: Corey Martin achieved at War Eagle Invitational solid 73.18 m in hammer.
CULLOWHEE: Cayman Islands sprinter Kemar Hyman improved at West Carolina Invitational at 100 m to 10.26 (+2.0) but could not celebrate the 200 m PB because his 20.81 were aided by +2.5.
LAWRENCE: Two interesting marks from Friday programme at Kansas Relays. Sprinter Rae Edwards posted 10.27 (+2.4) in 100 m preliminaries and High School high jumper James White cleared new meet record in his category 222 cm.
CORAL GABLES: At ACC Conference Championships fast heats in sprints. In 100 m Hurdles Queen Harrison clocked windy 12.98 (+2.7) and Kirsti Castlin legal 12.96 (+1.7). Murielle Ahoure of African origin achieved 11.34 PB (+1.5) at 100 m and 22.98 (+2.9) at 200 m. French Mateo Sossah improved in decathlon to 7821 points.
AZUSA: At first Bryan Clay invitational the Olympic and world 400 m winner Christine Ohuruogu tested her speed with wins at 100 m (11.51, +2.0) and 200 m (23.19, +1.8). Canadian Olympic finalist Angela Whyte posted 13.05 (+1.6) at 100 m Hurdles and Brent Gray was the fastest at 100 m (10.38, +1.1). Austrian Ryan Moseley was running 10.58 and 21.34 at 100 m and 200 m.
WALNUT: Great distances at 51st MtSAC Relays. Mexican Juan Luis Barrios achieved years second fastest 5000 m in 13:16.65 ahead of steeple specialist Anthony Famiglietti 13:17.98 and Chris Solinsky 13:18.41. Kenyan Philes Ongori was the best in women race (15:23.33). Briton Lee Emanuel surprised with 3:37.99 win and PB at 1500 m. His team-mate Tim Benjamin clocked 20.96 (+1.2) at 200 m.
