SIRACUSA (ITA): Italian pole vaulter Claudio Stecchi is currently preparing for the 2021 in Sicily under the tutelage of 2003 world champion Giuseppi Gibilesco, informs FIDAL. He is planning a full indoor season ahead of the summer campaign when he also hopes to qualify for Tokyo 2020. He said: “Yes, I am preparing for the indoor season and I would like to participate in both international championships, if there is the possibility,” he said, referring to the European and World Indoor Championships. Stecchi is also targeting the national outdoor record of 5.90m held by his coach. “The intention is to get as close as possible to the national record. You need the right competition, without physical problems and with the right rods. Now when I am confronted with the big names I don’t feel like a stranger,” he said. Indoor record by Gibilisco is 582.
