Ruth Beitia took gold in the 2016 Olympics in the high jump. She retired in 2017, after finishing 12th in the London World Championships, due to challenges with rheumatoid arthritis.
Ruth Beitia had an amazing career, competing from 1995-2017, consider the following:
This capped off a career with 3 European Outdoor Championships (2012 Helsinki, 2014 Zurich, 2016 Amsterdam), six medals in European Indoor Athletic Championships (gold at 2013 Goteborg, 4 silvers (2005 Madrid, 2009 Torino, 2011 Paris, 2017 Belgrade) and one bronze, 2007 Birmingham).

At the World Indoor Championships, Ruth had 4 medals: silver in 2010 Doha and 2016 Portland, bronze in 2006 Moscow and 2014 Sopot. At the 2013 World Outdoor Championships, Ruth Beitia took the bronze.
Her first win was in 2005 in Almiera at the Meditteranean Games. Her last major was the Olympics in 2016.
