This year, in 2020 was a big year for Mondo Duplantis. Since 2017, the athletics cognesceti have noted that Mondo was the real thing. This writer met Mondo with his family in Eugene, Oregon at the Pre Classic. I was struck by how Mondo’s parents allowed him to be a teenager.
Mondo woke the continent of Europe up with his win at the 2018 European Outdoor Athletics Championships.
2020 has been the year of Mondo. In one week in February 2020, Mondo set two world records, on 8 February 2020, Mondo cleared 6.17m in Torun, Poland. On 15 February 2020, Mondo cleared 6.18m in Glasgow, Scotland.
And then, on 17 September 2020, Mondo cleared 6.15m in Rome, and took the outdoor best as well!

STOCKHOLM (SWE): Pole vault World record holder Armand Duplantis was last week guest of Swedish TV show Skavlan. Duplantis said about his records. “Nothing can be compared to the first, so I feel especially now when I lean back and realize what I have done,” Duplantis said about his records. “To break the world record was so unreal and very difficult to describe. It’s been so long since I started. I started jumping when I was three years old in my mother’s and father’s backyard. Then I dreamed of being the best in the world. So once that day came, it is impossible to explain,” he added.
Get yourself a team like Mondo!
Mom Helena, his aunt and a friend took a 25hour road trip to drive his poles from Sweden to Monaco because flights are restricted and most don’t carry poles at the moment.#MonacoDL https://t.co/WjxNxSt8yl
