OSTRAVA (CZE, Sep 8): The 59th Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava (WACT Gold) was highlighted by Ryan Crouser winning the shot put with 22.43m (along with throws of 22.08, 22.31, 22.31m and 22.21m) and an excellent 5000m with Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo closing down on Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega to win in a meeting record of 12:48.63 to Barega’s 12:49.09. Yemaneberhan Crippa was third in an Italian record of 13:02.26 while Elzan Bibic also set a Serbian record of 13:26.56 in eighth. The programme closed with a 1500m victory for Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen in 3:33.92 ahead of Kenya’s Kumari Taki in 3:34.14 and his compatriot Karsten Warholm also won the 400m hurdles although he was disappointed with his meeting record time of 47.62. There was a British double in the 800m with Laura Muir continuing her excellent form with victory in the women’s race in 1:58.84 and Jake Wightman setting a PB of 1:44.18 in the men’s race ahead of Andreas Kramer who finally broke the 1:45-barrier with a Swedish record of 1:44.47. Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon set a meeting record of 3:59.05 on her season’s debut in the 1500m ahead of Brits Laura Weightman (4:01.96) and Jemma Reekie (4:03.25) and Sifan Hassan won the 5000m in 14:37.85. Christian Taylor also set a world lead of 17.46m in the last round of the triple jump to beat Hugues Fabrice Zango’s 17.42m and Barbora Spotakova produced a big season’s best of 65.19m to win the javelin on home soil. Other field event highlights included Daniel Stahl winning the discus with 66.42m, Ernest John Obiena from the Philippines clearing 5.74m in the pole vault to beat Renaud Lavillenie on countback (and also Sam Kendricks) and Great Britain’s Holly Bradshaw clearing 4.60m in the women’s pole vault. Elsewhere on the track, Ivory Coast’s Arthur Gue Cisse won the men’s 150m in 15.15 African all time best and Femke Bol from the Netherlands won yet again in the 300m hurdles in a world leading 38.55 (2nd best all-time) with Dafne Schippers clocking European all-time best 16.56 in the 150 m.
