Sondre Moen has made the decision that his body might not recover well with a hour race on 4 Sept and a marathon on 4 October. He notes that the pounding in an hour run in 25 cm shoes could be an issue…
BRUSSELS (BEL): Sondre Nordstad Moen has pulled out of the one hour race in Brussels on Friday when he was due to face Mo Farah and Bashir Abdi. He wrote on his Facebook page: “Don’t worry, I’m fit and well, in great shape and really looking forward to the London Marathon in five weeks’ time, on Sunday 4 October. However, I’m not sure I would be any of those things if I raced in Brussels because I’d have to race on the track for something like a half marathon – and hopefully a bit further – in shoes which only have 25mm of cushioning.” Moen’s European record performance from Kristiansand earlier this month will not be ratified as Moen was wearing shoes with above the allowable 25mm sole thickness rule but he is looking to challenge the decision. “I’m still holding out some hope that this performance might yet be ratified as I don’t think they have taken into account long-distance races on the track and allowed for runners – and I’m far from alone – who have legitimate podiatry issues,” he said.
