World leads at 1500 m
PORTLAND (USA, Jul 21): Bowerman Track Club athletes set world leading 1500m times on Tuesday. Karissa Schweizer won the women’s 1500m in 4:00.02 (also PB) from Colleen Quigley in 4:03.98 and Courtney Frerichs also PB 4:07.39 for the steeple specialist. Canada’s Mohamed Ahmed won the men’s 1500m in 3:34.89 WL/PB from Great Britain’s Marc Scott in 3:35.93 EL/PB and Grant Fisher 3:36.23 ahead of Evan Jager 3:36.31. All competed in the 600 m races, won by Lopez Lomong 1:22.04 and Shelby Houlihan 1:32.27 ahead of Schweizer 1:32.94. Ahmed is so new member of an exclusive club of runners with sub 3:35 in the 1500 m, sub 12:50 in the 5000 m and sub 27 minutes in the 10 000 m. Others are Haile Gebrselassie, Yomif Kejelcha, Kenenisa Bekele and Eliud Kipchoge, says Joaquin Carmona on his twitter.
