That athletics in Cuba is so good should surprise no one. The lack of great facilities are noted by some. That is not the entire story. Cuba is a proud country. It possesses fine coaches who understand their events ( espec. the jumps), and can improvize. Cuba also possesses amazing athletic talent, just waiting for someone to motivate them.
U20 Lescay gets 821 long jump
HAVANA (CUB, Mar 5-7): Cuban series of national meets continued last weekend, U20 Lester Lescay leaped to 821 (+0.2) in long jump ahead of Maikel Vidal 794 (+2.0). Jorge Fernandez got 63.68 in men discus and Yaime Perez 60.73 in women. U20 Melissa Hernandez improved in women javelin to 58.02 ahead of Yiselena Ballar who achieved U18 national record 56.98. Also U20 national mark in boys shot put as Juan Vazquez achieved 20.32 with 6 kg implement.
