While all of the excitement is about Usain Bolt and what he can do over the 100 meters and perhaps 200 meters, this thoughtful writer suggests that Mr. Bolt try the 400 meters. His size, his leg speed, his relaxed running all suggests a sub 44 opener.
Always, always have more speed than your competitor. It would be like Mr. Wariner running the 800 meters, and achieving a sub 1:41. Could be done, can be done, but the limitations that athletes still put on themselves is amazing!
Bolt Coach plans few changes
KINGSTON (JAM): The coach of world sprint record holder Usain Bolt, agrees his sprinter has not yet maximised his full potential. However, he is not reading too much into a recent biomechanic assessments about the potential speed. Informs Jamaica Observer. Glen Mills added: “That is just a projection, there is no accuracy or guarantee.” Asked how fast he thinks Bolt can go, Mills replied: “I don’t know, I don’t know. He has not peaked yet, he is just 22. Within another two years he should peak.” Mills also hinted a few things may change in the coming preseason for Bolt to run faster. “We have to evaluate what was done and the results. So it’s something I will have to sit down and look at scientifically in the coming weeks before he starts training,” said Mills.
Wariner thinks until 2016
GRAND PRAIRIE (USA): As Star-Telegram.com informs Jeremy Wariner returned home with his Olympic silver medal this week to find his two dogs still love him. “They were glad to see me, I’m surprised they knew who I was,” he was quoted. His fans doted on him just as much Wednesday. They arrived in Grand Prairie to get him to autograph spikes, shirts, pictures and baseball caps during a promotional appearance at the new 24 Hour Fitness, one of his sponsors. “It is going to be a rivalry for a long, long time,” Wariner said about his duels with LaShawn Merritt, “and it’s good to have a rivalry like that, because it’s going to make both of us work harder. The faster we run, the more exciting the races. With him running in the 43s right now, I don’t know if there have ever been two quarter-milers running in the 43s at the same time.” Wariner admitted that his right hamstring wasn’t 100 percent all season. It first tightened up at the Texas Relays in April. He plans a new house in McKinney which should be finished next summer. He plans first races in March in Waco and in long term until Olympic Games 2016.
Kanter again winning
TALLINN (EST, Sep 18): Another high-quality discus clash at Ergo Meet in Estonia. Home hero and Olympic winner Gerd Kanter achieved 69.24 to beat German Robert Harting (65.25), Poland´s olympic silver holder Piotr Malachowski (63.30), Hungarian Zoltan Kovago (63.10) and Ehsan Hadadi of Iran (62.94). Latvian javelin Olympic silver medalist Ainars Kovals won his event achieving 85.75 m.
M. Lewis international debut at 400 m
SHANGHAI (CHN): Interesting additions to Shanghai Golden Grand Prix on Saturday are US sprinting sensation Travis Padgett at 100 m to challenge both Jamaican Olympic winners Michael Frater and Nesta Carter. 2005 World champion Lauryn Williams will compete against Veronica Campbell-Brown at 100 m. Jamaican Olympic finalist Brigitte Foster-Hylton competed after Beijing (6th) only in Zurich (8th) and returned last weekend in Stuttgart (5th) to travel to China and run against Olympic winner Dawn Harper. US relay Olympian (although the team did not finish) and world champion Mechelle Lewis will compete in her first international 400 m race. The sub 11 sprinter will face top quarter-milers headed by Olympic champion Christine Ohuruougu. Her best at 400 m comes from 2002 with 55.00.
Hammer throwers unhappy
TOKIO (JPN): Hammer throwers are not very happy with the situation that their event is not very often staged within IAAF Grand Prix Meetings. Olympic winner 2004 Koji Murofushi who is also member of IAAF Athletes Commission plans to send a letter with interesting analysis. Since 2000 there were 151 IAAF Golden League, Super Grand Prix or Grand Prix Meetings. Only at 21 during that time hammer for men was staged, that means 14 percent. In last 8 years only Rome Golden Gala from Golden League staged hammer twice (2001 and 2002), since when Super Grand Prix started no meeting staged men´s hammer. In recent years only Osaka, Ostrava and Hengelo are regularly having this event in the programme. The athletes understand there might be technical difficulties or barriers, but still are seeking for more recognition.
Miles not in Aachen
AACHEN (GER): Agent Karen Locke informs that US Pole Vaulter Derek Miles is not confirmed to compete in Aachen next Wednesday. His last competition will be on Sep 23 in Kawasaki, Japan at Supermeet.

TRIER (GER, Sep 18): At city Pole Vault meet held for first time Danny Ecker won with clearing 560 cm. Lars Borgeling and Alexander Straub followed with 550.
OLOMOUC (CZE, Sep 18): Russian Ivan Ilyichev won the square High Jump meet with 220 cm.
BRNO (CZE, Sep 18): At Zdenek Prochazka Memorial Long Jump competition home athlete Stepan Wagner achieved excellent 800 cm beating former Olympic medalist James Beckford of Jamaica (782) and German Nils Winter (764).
WIESBADEN (GER, Sep 17): Quarter-miler Kamghe Gaba improved his PB at 200 m here clocking 20.88.
FAENZA (ITA, Sep 17): In interesting hammer duel former Olympic medalist Nicola Vizzoni beat main home rival Marco Lingua (75.82-74.65). Their head-to-head this year is 4:2 in favor of Vizzoni.
NOVE ZAMKY (SVK, Sep 15): At Slovak Club Championships men and women of Spartak Dubnica retained their titles. Dmitrij Valukevic won both jumping events (739 and 16.37) and world class runner Lucia Klocova not only dominated the 800 m (2:15.31, traveling in the evening from Stuttgart), but also won the 1500 m in 4:43.42.
