I met Arne Gabius on flight from Stockholm about 4 years ago, when he was starting to move to the marathon. In March 2014, Arne Gabius ran a 1:02.09 at the NYC Half. That summer he would not fare well a very tactical European 5000m champs, (7th, with last 800m run in around 1:52. Arne gave it the good fight, but one could see he was looking to the roads.
Arne had been moving to the long distances, as he had good leg speed (13:12.50 in 2013, after taking silver in 2012 Euros 5000m), and 27:55.35 in 2014 Payton Jordan Classic, followed in 2015 by a 27:43.93 PB over 10,000m at the 2015 Pre Classic.
