AMSTERDAM (NED): Kenenisa Bekele’s agent Jos Hermens has said Bekele stopped in the last kilometre of the Amsterdam Marathon due to hip problems caused by a recent injury sustained in training, informs LetsRun.com. “When he was starting to push, the right hip started to lock up more than it did before. You try to hold back and hopefully it release again, but at 30k, with those guys pushing at his pace, it was impossible,” he said. Despite a poor string of recent results at the marathon, Hermens remains confident Bekele will be a factor at the distance in 2019. “He will be ready for a good spring marathon, I’m confident. Looking for the preparation [before] the injury and what he showed, I’m convinced he’s still ready to run fast times,” he said.
