PORTSMOUTH (GBR): Chris Thompson, who made a 2:11:19 marathon debut in 2014, hopes the New York Marathon in two weeks’ time will act as the restart of his marathon career, informs Athletics Weekly. “I’m hoping New York will be a springboard to the restart of my marathon career. Initially I wasn’t sure if this year was going to almost be like a petering off and an end. But now I’m feeling like by doing that, I might have one last rebirth and go at the marathon. I’m excited by it. Four years ago when I started the marathon quest and it all imploded with the operation, I think now I feel excited and I almost feel like this is my first ever marathon. There’s no pressure and we’ll see what happens,” he said. Thompson will be defending his title in Sunday’s Great South Run.
