The final day of the European Championships had just one amazing final after another. In part two of the Second Session, we feature the following: Highlights W Hammer Throw Final – Anita Wlodarczyk (POL) 1st Place M Triple Jump Final – Nelson Évora (POR) 1st Place W 1500m Final – Laura Muir (GBR) 1st Place.
Anita Wlodarczyk is the Olympic, World and European Champion. She is also the world record holder in the hammer throw. Her throw of 78.94 meters in Berlin set a championship record. Nelson Evora, the senior statesmen of the triple jump, now has a complete set of titles, with his European Outdoor title. Nelson has represented Portugal since 2001. Born in the C’ote D’Ivoire, Nelson moved from Cape Verde as a child of five. As an aside, check out the London 2017 Presser where Christian Taylor and Will Claye show some serious respect to Nelson Evora, a man still competing at top of his game seventeen years after his first international!
And then, there was the women’s 1,500 meters. Laura Muir did not run in the Commonwealth Games due to Univeristy schedule. After an achilles scare at the London DL, Laura Muir focused on the 1,500m for the European Outdoors. Laura took gold with a bold move: she ran the kick out of the field, running 2:05.9 for the last 800 meters, with a 62.2 to put the field out of its misery. Only Soufia Ennoui of Poland sprinted, as she moved past Laura Weightman in the final thirty meter, taking silver to Weightman’s bronze.
