RBR Flash: Defar Blisters 14:12.88 for 5,000 meters! by Alfons Juck, Notes by Larry Eder

What a difference a month makes. On June 8, Meseret Defar ran 14:38 by herself at the NIke Pre Classic, two days after Tirunesh Dibaba ran 14:11.8.
Defar ran in Stockholm with a vengance, just missing the new world record, breaking her best, and running 14:12.88!

STOCKHOLM (SWE): World champion Meseret Defar did not take back her 5000 m world record from Tirunesh Dibaba. In excellent race she missed it only very barely with second fastest ever 14:12.88. Her last 400 m were 60.37 and last kilo 2:43.20.
